VAN decline, they don't need to make that trade and give away assets when they can just re-sign Markstrom.

This assumes they dont want to bring back Markstrom, read above.

Here is Lehner with Leafs for you.

This looks good to me and they could trade one or both of Keefoot and Kapanen for d help or picks and sign DeMelo if they wanted to. Looks like we're better than before these moves!!!

I never thought I'd see the day where Michael f**king Dal Colle was the most valuable player in a trade 😂

I would think the Isles decline this. MDC is actually decent defensively - which is too important in Trotz's system. He will be a bottom 6 guy next year IMO.

Bracco for JHS? Sure why not.

Why wouldn't VAN keep the assets and sign Lehner?

If Lyubushkin is able to play top RHD Id assume he would cost more. I know nothing about him honestly just guessing his value would be higher considering RHD That can play top pairing normally cost more. Unless he’s just average and you assume playing with Reilly would be like a Carlson Kemnpy type deal.

Could swap out Lehtonen for him instead.
Bottom line, I wanted to keep Kerfoot and had only approximately 2 million to work with cap wise.

So this is the direction I choose.

My original idea of Andersen to Canucks was based on the desire to add a goalie with 1 year left to give e Demko another.

So that was my thought process here as well.

Basically, @Sign_em_up000000 suggested that Lehner could sign for 3 years with Leafs if no one gives him more term.

So this was a look at that.

There was a trade for Rosen and Bracco for Johnston and Ho-Sang I asked if Johnston could be swapped for MDC to Islanders fan (I think) and got the thumbs up.

So I swapped Rosen for Marcinin instead.

Talks with Markstrom have not gone well as speculated by different reporters mostly because it seems Vancouver doesn't want to give term.

If term is the issue then Andersen is a nice stop gap between their two young goalies. Anyway, the thought process is pretty good here.

Did you read the part that I mentioned if Lehner is unable to get more than a 3 year deal?

Your Lehner signing is way too low. Try more like 6x7 or 7x7 to sign Lehner there will be a major bidding war on him.

Why wouldn't he be able to get more then 3 years, Get real here dude there's going to be tons of bidders on him including Detroit he will get both term and money. Bottom line even on a 3 year deal you're still looking at $7 million per not $5 million per.

The whole premise here is "if"
I never once indicated indicated otherwise.

Lehner has already stated on record that he's getting sick and tired of short term deals, He's said numerous times that he wants money and term. Maybe that means he needs to sign with a bottom feeder team like Detroit, Ottawa, New Jersey or Buffalo who can afford him the money and term he so desires.

I actually think the Isles would take this and re-sign Matt Martin to a league-minimum deal. He'd take it too, he won't have a lot of suitors in free agency. This gives the Isles a depth defenseman (I know he's not great but he's still NHL-caliber) and a project RW prospect that Lou drafted and probably likes.

I'm quite honestly not sure in what universe San Jose would be willing to part ways with our 2nd this year for Johnsson. A 3rd? yes. COL 2nd? Mayyyyybe. But definitely not that pick.

Nobody is giving Lehner that kind of a contract especially with the cap not rising to the previous projections. Lehner is a good goalie but he's had alcohol and drug abuse problems and though I'm truly glad he got help and got better he could always fall off the wagon at any time which is something teams will have to keep in mind. Most teams can't afford to give him the kind of contract you're suggesting and the teams that can are mostly bottom feeders for the foreseeable future and wouldn't want to give him that kind of contract if they aren't going anywhere while he's still in his prime.

Why would Detroit give him a contract like that? They won't be competing during his prime years and it would be unwise to hand out that kind of money for a goalie who at best would help them straddle the middle of the pack and be a bubble team at beast worsening their draft slot. You're thinking like a fan and not a GM but if you guys want to do that then be my guess it will only make you a non-threat for longer.

No chance he goes back to Buffalo and I don't think they'd want him and why would any of those other teams do that? What does it accomplish for them? All of those teams would be better off taking on bad contracts to speed up their rebuild minus Buffalo.
