If you retain $2M instead than $1M, I can take Saad for a 3rd

Saad and Strome trades are laughably bad from a hawks perspective

Detroit will take both Saad and Strome for those prices w/out retention.

Hawks are getting hosed in all of these deals.

Maatta is worth at least a 3rd rounder, or equivalent prospect. Saad (with rentention) is worth probably a 2nd and a mid-level prospect. I'd prefer to keep Strome, but given his emergence as a legitimate 2nd line center, I don't think that asking for a young-ish top-4 defenseman is unfair, maybe with Chicago throwing a pick back to even things out

At 50% retained Saad would be worth a 6th round pick. At most it could be a conditional 6th that upgrades to a 5th if the receiving team wins the Cup.

I was under the impression Strome and Nylander were untouchable.

I don't think they're untouchable, but considering the Hawks cap constraints and they're cost controlled for years to come...it would have to be a serious offer coming back. The 2020 EDM 2nd round pick isn't close to cutting it.

***EDIT*** what do you think of a Strome-Mantha type of trade? Other parts pieces in that trade aside, but them being the main pieces. There's a lot of things to consider to that kind of trade...age/experience...wing/center...arb eligible...just curious to hear your thoughts.

I'd rather keep Mantha.

BUF is desperate for a 2nd line center and would likely give a lottery protect 2021 1st. They'd do that deal in heartbeat.
Team already has a number of left handed forwards, Saad likely wont fit their plans, but it's tempting at that price.
