CBO - Ferly - DeMelo - Dman swap with TOR

Created by: alwaysnextyear

Description
CBO: Eriksson's contract is just a massive anchor. Please go away now, mmkay?

FERLAND: I hope he can come back and STAY healthy as he would provide a big boost to the top 9 forward group. However, if the concussion issues continue to linger I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on permanent LTIR or retires. That's the scenario I've included here. The extra cap space helps to re-sign Toffoli.

DEMELO: I prefer DeMelo as a 2RD as opposed to bringing back Tanev, as I think the younger, cheaper guy will provide the better value in the long run. Tanev stayed healthy this year, but his injury history, age and drop in possession numbers make me hope the team moves on.

TOR TRADE: It seems like a lot of Leafs fans are looking for RHD help and constantly trading away Dermott because of the LHD depth they have. This could work for VAN if they A) like Dermott as a piece to continue developing, and B) can sign another 2nd pair RHD (see DeMelo). Green didn't seem to have a lot of trust in Stecher last year despite the fact he put up pretty decent relative possession stats with heavy defensive zone starts.

I dont know if Toronto would accept that, but it aint bad. Stetcher is a good RD and could do well playing with Rielly.

I haven't seen a Dermott for Stetcher deal before. It seems like it could actually work with some picks involved.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think Benning's plans are for Demko vis-à-vis Seattle?

As of this moment I think Demko will be protected, but a lot will change depending on whether Markstrom is re-signed, and what his contract looks like if he is. If Marky demands a full NMC in exchange for a bit of a break on his AAV, I could see Benning doing that and having to expose or trade Demko. Ideally there won’t be a NMC though, and the team can see how next season plays out before deciding who they want to protect.

VAN will re-sign Markstrom, there will be far more well established and better goalies available for Seattle to take. Demko has 37 games under his belt along with concussion issues.

If Demko doesn't make the next step this next year, then I don't think Seattle would even pick him. there's better goalies available.

Many Jets fans myself included would really like Chevy to sign DeMelo to that deal.

Yeah, I think it would end up being a bargain. I’ve made other posts where I have VAN signing him with a 4m AAV then get a bunch of comments about how it’s an overpayment, haha. Curious to see what he does end up signing for IRL.

Yup you sign him for $3.75M×5 and everyone is cool with but add a quarter mill to that AAV and they lose their minds cause its an unbelievable overpay.. Lol
