A Cap Dump Read Description Before You Yell At Me

Created by: twodollarlobster
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2020
Published: Jun. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If there isn't a compliance buyout I wonder if the Oilers would want to do this. SJ might be rebuilding and they might want another draft pick to help the process. Now, I'm not sure if they are going to try to be competitive again. If they are going to try, maybe this could go to LA or NJ. Is it worth it? Should the Oilers try Neal again?

Lastly, I haven't used any of the cap space right now. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, but having the freedom of cap space would be great.

The trouble is, if it ends up being flat cap and no CBO, there will be lots of teams wanting to dump cap. And not very many teams willing to take it.

Sorry no. If the sharks were to rebuild that’s not nearly enough to take on that amount of cap. Especially with it static for three years. I would ask for a serious prospect to be added

I don’t. The cap is staying put for three years. Neals deal is massive. This basically means we can’t be active on FA for three years while we pay Neal. I would do it if the pick is lottery, but otherwise no chance

The cap isn't staying where it is for 3 years, it will go up again in 2021

Yes. Sharks have big money tied up, adding Neal, even for a lotto pick maybe not enough.

However, I wonder if this sort of deal would would work with New Jersey. Hoards of cap space, a very young core in need of some leadership of some level, and beyond Gusev and Palmeiri (both of whom may leave after next year), wing positions that need filling.

Right idea? Wrong team?

Yeah I was wondering if LA or NJ would be a good fit. I honestly don't know if the Sharks are going to try to be competitive again or just blow the team up.

Luckily youre not. You would have turned our team into the 1992 sharks by now if you were. Judging by your old sharks posts.

Sharks decline. Not rebuilding and like Papi said, if we were, throw in one of your top prospects cause this aint cutting it.

Of all the teams who can afford to take on a cap dump, San Jose is not one of them...unfortunately.
