Some Fun Young Trade

Description
I don't know if Caps would do this because they love Siegenthaler but we're here for fun, right?

Why the Caps do it:

They are absolutely loaded on the left side (Orlov, Siegenthaler, Alexeyev, Fehervary, Kempny, Nardella) so they can move out a piece. I'd rather keep Siegenthaler over someone like Kempny but doubt Kempny gets Merkley. Caps get an RHD offensive defensemen prospect, which they don't really have after losing Priskie last summer. Merkley will take more time to develop and is more high risk he doesn't work out when they know Siegenthaler is already very good.

Why the Sharks do it:

I know Shark fans won't like it because Siegs isn't "sexy" but he helps SJS now, which they need. Also, they have better versions of Merkley in Burns and Karlsson for the next 5 years after this one so there isn't much room for him. And with the quick downward spiral of Vlassic they need a true high end shut down defensemen. Siegenthaler just turned 23 and is already one of the best shutdown D in the league, check out his analytics. He's only going to get better and will probably be an elite shutdown D in his prime (if he isn't already). He'd be perfect to cover the defensive side for Karlsson or Burns.

^That's what you get for trying to have fun, lol!

Seriously tho, Merkley could probably use a change. Could work out.

He was criticized for his attitude which was bad at the time and his poor defensive play. He has improved both dramatically while retaining his elite offensive skill. He should now be considered one of the top D prospects in the league and down the road, the steal of that draft. Hes going to be really really good. His coach in London Dale Hunter and his teammates have nothing but really high praise for him after last season. He’ll start in the AHL but will be the first dman called up.

all I really know about merkley is that was traded by guelph before their cup run meaning that team would rather trade him than make a playoff run with him. This move ended up helping the oilers as samo lit it up once merkely was gone

Yes that was his draft year, when he was criticized for his bad attitude. Heres the thing though, he was 17 and theres this thing that players and people do called ‘growing ‘ and ‘maturing’ and last year Merkley had 76 points and a +20 rating in 60 games while playing a leadership role on amd off the ice on a team with the 2nd best record while the aforementioned Guelph team sat 7 spots lower...so you see who won that trade lol

Not in a trillion years.

Add a 1st going to San Jose for that deal and maybe we'd consider.

That's why I said we might consider. Still probably wouldn't do it, but at least it would be closer to the correct value of Merkley.

That's literally what I said above. Issue is Merkley isn't a definite NHL player, Siegs and he helps SJS now which they need. Not saying SJS would do it but it would make sense for them if they want to take advantage of what they have now.

No thanks. We dont need defense help now. If we were to trade Merkley it would have to be for a young top six forward or a young forward prospect with serious potential
