NHL draft LOTTERY IS A JOKE and needs to change

I’m sorry but the NHL Draft Lottery needs to change. It’s a completely unfair system.

It’s ridiculous that a play in team will get a shot at the number one overall pick and take a player that could likely be a top line guy immediately. There was nothing wrong with the old system of moving up a max of 4 spots if you win and having the number one pick only be lottery based. That’s a huge boost for any of those teams. It’s a joke.

Disclaimer, I am not a wings fan or a sens fan. I am a Sabres and Jackets fan. Even with the Jackets being my second team, I while I wouldn’t complain if they got bounced and won of course, it would be bull**** because it really should be the teams in the top 5 who have a shot at one of those top three picks.

I mean, isn’t the purpose of a draft to filter talent to teams that need it most?

The odds still heavily favor the worst teams. It's a measure taken to prevent tanking.

Number One Pick Team Info FYI:
The team will be one of the eight that are eliminated from the Stanley Cup Qualifiers and will be determined by a second drawing to be held before the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Each of the eliminated teams will have a 12.5 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in prior years ALL 15 clubs that missed playoffs still had a shot at #1?
This year that is still the case, but the odds are now 12.5%, not 1%, and it'll be set within a second 8-club BINGO-CAGE-MATCH!!

Yeah. It’s essentially the same as normal, except slightly worse odds for play-in teams closest to 8th last, and better for play-in teams closer to being the best team outside the playoffs.

Sens' "own pick" lost a top 3 lottery for 3 straight seasons which is ironic because they're the reason why NHL created the lottery in first place due to that tanking for Daigle controversy.

I'm no mathematician but somehow the odds were stacked this way, simulator on tankathon repeatedly show this type of result!!! Teams Always move into top 3. Finishing 3, 4, 5 is almost better than 1st or 2nd.

It's not. The last place team still gets the best odds, and so on. It's still just more likely that a team that didn't finish last is likely to win.

Their odds are NOT high enough... the other teams balls combined are much greater than the top 2/3 teams odds. Just read somewhere, the last 13yrs top odds won 30% !?!?? ...whatever...ish.... not good really

As they should be. 12/13 other teams should combine for greater odds than 2/3 others. It discourages tanking. The draft lottery has undergone a pretty drastic shift in recent years, so the past 13 can't really be grouped together as one.
