I’d pass on both those trades for oilers. If win lottery I don’t see any reason to hit trade market besides offloading AA rights and unfortunately bennings.

I don’t know. I think that would be our chance to go for it. I don’t think we need next years first round pick if we get Lafreniere. We want to be a cup contender for as long as possible with McDavid and Draisaitl, so might as well start now.

Going to need to give more than that to dump Kris Russel AND get back Iafallo. He's almost, but not quite, worth a first rounder by himself.

If we get him then bring JP back there is no real glaring need that top six easy to argue being the best two lines in hockey not to mention the blueline is young and has shown consistent growth. Have the prospects in system to replace bottom six players as those deals expire. The upgrades the team would need are in the system. Only part might look at trade market for is a long term goalie but I don’t see shopping for it until after expansion draft

Ya we could add something. Don’t think Russel’s that big of a dump though. His bonuses will be paid and he’s fine with bottom pairing minutes. I think his contract evens out the trade, but the Oilers could add something like a mid level prospect.

I think we can still do that. My idea would be to Protect: McDavid, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi, Anthanasiou, Yamamoto, Nuge, and Iafallo in the expansion draft leaving Kassian available. If they take Kassian then we can replace him with Benson or Lavoie. Can also have a 4th line position open for McLeod. We wouldn’t have a first round pick that year but I think that’s ok considering how young our players are. And then let our d-men develop gradually.

I’d try to trade neal while offering to retain 1.9million rather than buyout. He would be of more value to a team with that price point. This way doesn’t add extra term on top of existing.

Regardless of the real money owed to Russel, this issue for all teams this coming year is going to be much more related to the cap hit. Teams that didn't think they'd be in trouble will be desperate to find ways to shed every possible amount of cap hit to stay within what is expected to be a stagnant 81.5mil. On the other hand, teams like the Kings will be looking to exploit that, especially if there are no compliance buyouts offered.

Been saying this for a few months. Teams with cap space and/or draft picks have the upper hand.
