That would be an absolute Steal for Buffalo! But Calgary declines without a doubt

I would think a Monahan trade would be centered around Cozens and the 2020 1st.

Cozens or the 20 first. Cozens plus a pair of 2s or mittelstadt/thompson and 8oa would be something to think about. But both cozens and 8oa is a bridge too far.

Monahan is a 25 yr old 1C who has been a consistent 30g/60pt Producer with 3 yrs left on a team friendly deal. That’s a teams top prospect and top draft pick to start package. If I’m the Flames that’s Cozens the 2020 1st +, and I am most definitely not a Flames fan. If BUF isn’t comfortable with that I would understand, but an Eichel, Monahan duo would be one of the best 1,2 C combo’s in the league.

I don't think any team picking that high with that highly touted of a top prospect would be comfortable with that. Wild have a similar need and I cannot see them trading their first likely a few picks lower and Kaprizov. Same with Winnipeg. That would be first and Heinoka and cannot see them doing that either

If the Flames trade Monahan then they are probably blowing it up. If thats the case how about you add Okposo as a cap dump and Jokiharju and the Flames add Hanifin.

Monahan
Hanifin

For

Okposo
Cozens
Jokiharju
8th overall

As a veteran of the "eichel underpayment sweepstakes of stupidity" posts, i totally understand your point. Its just that its too much for a crappy team who somehow does not have a fantastic pipeline despite years of prime picks.

Oh I totally get it and totally understand not wanting to trade away a guy who looks like i a stud in Cozens.

And that’s why those teams are still looking for centers. You’re talking about trading 2 yes highly regarded pieces, but completely unknown prospects that in the cases of draft picks aren’t contributing at all for 2 more years. Look at what WPG has spent on temporary rental solutions the last few years on Hayes and Stastny wouldn’t it have been smarter to overpay for a permanent solution?

That's to say a permanent solution was available. Had they been able to resign Stastny he would have worked out for a few years. I mean honestly think about it it is hard to say that Calgary would even move Monahan if you gave them that kind of package. It ends up being too big a risk for either side.

Oh I think there is no way Calgary moves him for that. That’s a starting point in the negotiations. Ryan O’Reilly was available just saying.

He basically asked for a trade and the GM who is now unemployed as a result panicked. Besides that top end 1a/1b centers don't get moved.
