Defence wins championships

Description
Dallas can make the Heiskanen extension work. They have 12 million in space next season with a flat cap + likely a Klingberg trade before the expansion draft with the signing of Pietrangelo. And the Pavelski and Radulov deals expire when the young guns need new contracts. This also paves the way for Dellandrea to go pro either midway through the 20-21 season or the next

Gonna need that defense to win a championship cause this team would struggle to score.

Mostly solid ideas. For me, I’d rather not go the Thornton route, and would add depth on D so to not rush Harley. Oettinger is another challenge, my bet is Dallas attempts to add a proven backup for 2 yrs, and allows Oettinger to ease into role vs. fully having role in rookie season.

Yeah that’s pretty much how it’s been the last few years. Although this might be the best top 4 in the league and arguably the best goalie in the league in the league next to Rask and Hellebyuck. With the young players given the right ice time, I think they can score enough

I’d be fine with your Oettinger suggestion. I put him there cause I felt he was very close to being ready and can learn from bishop but I’d be okay with your idea. I also think Harley will be ready. He looked fantastic in the pre season this year and I think he’ll make the jump this season

Klingberg >>> Lindell

In your (hypothetical) future when you say that a defenseman is “likely to be traded away prior to the expansion draft”, it would make FAR less sense to trade Klingberg instead of Lindell.

No Perry. No Jumbo. Team is already too slow. Return for Fox and Rig isn’t enough. Otter needs starting minutes in the AHL. This does nothing for his development

I agree Harley is close. He was our best D in preseason. Conflicted on how they’ll approach. Normal circumstances I’d think they ease in alongside a depth D to support the learning curves of the league. But, this yr is different with how teams are having to overcome the revenue losses, so could see teams like Dallas forced to go younger with current assets vs. spending in free agency. Good thing is we’re positioned pretty well either way.

You’re likely right. Either or works for me but I went with Klinger cause his next contract is gonna be scary big

Perry and Joe are fine. It’s likely a 1 year experiment with Joe and he can help the young guys. Oettinger was sort of for cap and I think he can learn under bishop. And yeah you could probably get a bigger return but it was more of a cap move so I didn’t really care

He’s a fine depth piece. I don’t mind him playing up and down the lineup. Only put him there to spread out the lines a bit but he’s just fine. Nothing more nothing less

Perry and Jumbo are old and slow and we already have too much old and slow. Didn’t really care? Glad you aren’t the GM
