With covid19 as an excuse, the athletes/GM's can easily take a "phantom punch" and lose, 12.5 % is almost just as good as the Wings chances were and they spend all season with the tank for Laffy game plan.

Personally, I believe when the League got down to the final 2 selections of the 1st Draft Lottery, once it was clear it was between LA and a playoff team, they should have held off with the announcement until after the play in Rd was over, just to stop teams from tanking.

The NHLPA has already stated if any players feel unsafe they are free to sit the playoffs out.

With Matthews tested positive, maybe he sits the playoffs out.

That’s if they sit out, if they play they will try their best. It’s what all athletes do.... especially at that level.

I feel the best example of intentional tanking was Arizona and buffalo the year oilers won mcdavid. Hockey gods rewarded the team that sucked but never gave up. Trust in the hockey gods and you will be rewarded in time.

It would be a great fit and I’d like to see that happen out of all the teams in running they could be the one really needing the boost more than others. As an oilers fan I’d love to have him but doesn’t seem remotely fair to every other fan base.

CBJ has had horrible draft lottery luck. There were like 10 years of high % of winning in the 2000s and they never won, they had the best chance % the year Crosby and Ovi/Malkin and never got the pick. The only #1 pick was 2002 when they had to trade up for Rick Nash.
Would love to see it, but not optimistic.
