leafs 2020-21 - Lets see what we got in the kids

Description
I think the best thing is just to play a wait and see as to what our young defense will turn out to be.

The left side is set - Reilly, Muzzin and Sandin. Let's see what our other defense can do on the right side.

Dermott is still young and getting better. He has shown a bit of grit at times and will be a top 4 defense for years to come. He has looked OK on the right side and I think he will surprise and work well on the right side with Reilly. I know there are a lot of trades with Dermott being posted but I hate to see him traded before his full potential and then we regret it. The leafs have done that so many times in the past. (Rask for Raycroft comes to mind for one) (Steen for Stepniak is another)

Holl and Muzzin work well together so keep them together,

Lets see how Lehtonen works out in the NHL . He is a lefty that plays the right side. Some of the best RD's have been lefty's. I believe Liljegren is also ready to make the leap to the NHL. He was very effective with the Marlies this year. Let Lehtonen and Liljegeren compete for the third pairing alongside Sandin. If after a few months it does not work out we can look for short term support while they improve with the Marlies.

I Know I am over the cap but also have 26 players to show the depth. Send 3 players to the Marlies to get down to 23 players and to get under the cap.

The leafs are a young team with lots of years ahead of them so lets not rush into trade mistakes.

Love to but I am trying to be realistic. The odds are slim for the chance to get him.

Well I believe Dermott gets less $ if you're being realistic. I doubt he gets more than Holl. I've been quoting him with a 3 yr deal at $4 (1.33 cap hit) or $5 (1.66 cap hit) million.

Ya maybe because of the whole Covid effect on league revenue but I think he will end up a much better player than Holl.

Depends if he does learn to play the right side, if he is stuck behind Reilly, Muzzin and Sandin on the depth chart on the left side, he'll be lucky to get the $1.33 contract I suggested.

I think he won't accept 1.33m and will take an offersheet first, I think there are a few teams out there that will offer 2+ per. So I think the leafs have to offer 2+ or trade his rights.

Finally a post about the Leafs on CapFriendly that makes sense. I wonder what @MitchMarnerElite opinion would be on your post not trading Marner.

Good thing you are not a GM in the NHL with crazy opinions like that.

On 2 year deal Dermott is likely to receive 2% of the cap.
This is the way things have gone in the NHL, that's 1.75 million.

Overall this is realistic but I'd say Robertson is likely at least 1 year away from being on the Leafs.

Thoughts on Engvall taking a huge step forward to transition to a C instead of a winger?

I would not be surprised if Engvall is center and Kerfoot is wing or back and forth depending on opposition. Dubas and Keefe are pushing for players to learn how to play more than one position.

As far as Dermott I think it will be a 3 or 4 year deal not a 2 year deal.

I agree with Robertson being a year away but included him here to show the depth
