Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Team Explanation
Hronek is a young Dman who looks like a solid top-4 option on a team that DESPERATELY needs talent (inflating his value to them). He also fills a need for the Maple Leafs and is why I am willing to LOSE a trade to acquire him. It is important for CF users to remember that Hronek is not and likely will not be a top pair or number 1 dman and should not be valued as such even if he is used in that manner on the wings. With that being said I am fully prepared to suffer the barrage of those who overvalue him and/or undervalue the Leafs.

Leafs get:
A pressing need filled with a good young player on a cheap elc with years of control.
Upgrade from Liljegren to Hronek, mostly in timeline but also in potential as he has progressed faster.

Wings get:
A pick upgrade in a deep draft
Kapanen

Liljegren looks like he will be a solid 2nd pairing Dman who can shut down top lines while having excellent passing ability and the long term upside makes this trade a big win for the wings. They also get Kapanen who has top 6 upside but is burried behind Marner and Nylander in Toronto. This moves gives him a spot higher in the lineup and will allow his crazy speed and talent to shine next to Larkin and Mantha.

I have already said it but I want to make it clear that I think the Leafs lose this trade, but I think the need is pressing enough and that we'd need to overpay to get Hronek.

I’m not lol Hronek is just wayyyy better

Liljegren has too much upside and Leafs are going to continue to slow cook him and develope him the right way this next year.

You understand what a re-build is don't you? Where you move players who don't fit into your window for ones who do, hopefully more so than the player you just moved.
And no, Hronek is only playing as high as he is because he is on a tire fire of a team. He would be a good young up and coming 2nd pairing RD on most teams.

Hronek is 21, how is that not being a part of their long term plans lol Yzerman literally included him in their future core

Also yeah agreed Hronek isn’t a top pairing guy. Yet. He’s consistently gotten better every year since 2017 and we’ve just seen the surface of his potential

As has Liljegren.. Do you see the rift between your words and logic? I am not denying that Hronek is better - he is, but the downgrade to Liljegren is more than offset by moving up in the draft AND adding Kap.

Right I don’t think TOR trades him but why would Yzerman move a part of his core? He said it himself that Hronek is a part of his core lol

The fact that one of the biggest clowns on these boards is being summoned as the expert shows the current state of these boards. It’s laughable

There’s a major différence between a number 3 and a number 8
I hope this is understandable for you and no Liljegren being a year younger doesn’t make up for that insane difference

Because you add another good young piece to that core... Are you really incapable of seeing this?

But why would Yzerman do this at best their ceilings are roughly the same, and Hronek has more NHL experience, and he fits that team perfectly, and you don’t trade such a player

I haven’t offered an evaluation of a player the entirety of my time on these boards. Just leads to **** like this. Maybe you should sit down and stop making things up.

Lol Hronek does more to help them build something for now, the short term future and the long term one so no you’re the one who can’t project himself into the future, you don’t rearrange deck chairs when building a core. Should the Leafs have moved Kappy last year for a guy a year younger with roughly the same ceiling? No? Well same here

I’m not even a Carolina fan and I know Pesce starts with Nylander. You know damn well this offer isn’t going to be accepted.

Hronek is 22, he’s got a decade to fit in the window for Det! He’s a above average 2nd pairing RD with 1st pairing upside and can quarterback a PP, This trade is laughable!

I think he is a unique individual who is hard to understand but I actually think deep down this guy knows hockey if he would just start to use his talents to good use instead of taking constant shots at one certain player.

Good debating @Random2152 and @KakkoForMauriceRichardAward

The biggest dick of the site vs. the one guy getting absolutely mauled by Leafs fans due to his take on the matter.

Good show applaud

You overvalue Hronek. He only looks like that because of the lack of talent around him. He looks like a top 4 dman in upside.
