Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2020
Published: Jun. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Blues would love to clear some cap and OTT could use a RH pivot. Bozak is 55% in FOW, and he can still skate and score. He'll waive his NTC because knows he'll be in out top 6 and can pad his stats in order to get a great new contract somewhere else, and he knows we'll move him at the deadline to a contender. It's win - win for him.

CBJ has ONE PICK in the first 3 rounds so they may very well be interested in swapping that for the 5th OA, NYI 1st, DAL 2nd and two high ceiling prospects in L Brown + Balcers.
* Also willing to REMOVE the NYI 1st and L Brown and ADD Brännström and Tychonik instead.

With the CBJ 1st and the SJS 1st - OTT selects Lafreniere and Byfield.

I think youd probably have to give up both lottery picks for anyone at the top to consider moving it.

I highly doubt russell goes to Ottawa. I get the money factor but I don’t believe he would waive to go there. Honestly don’t see them moving him because he’s very well liked within the organization and he could be the best pairing option for bouch. His defensive nature could help shelter bouch in the beginning allowing him to get comfortable with his game. Pairing bouch with jones is a lack of experience I’m not sure holland would want.

Jackets have had horrible draft lottery luck in the past.
They had about 8 or 9 chances in the lottery from 2000 to 2008 drafting in the #1 to #8 position (about 2 to 3 years they were dead last and had the best % chance to win, but didn't).
The only time they chose #1, they had to trade up to get Rick Nash.
That being said, if they did win the 1OA pick, I seriously doubt the #3OA & #5OA offered would do it.
Lafreniere is just about too good to pass up, and would fit in nicely on a top line with Dubois & Bjorkstrand.

If you're after Lafreniere, you don't get to hold back on one of the top picks. That said, don't expect to be doing business with Columbus; we've had the most consistently awful draft lottery luck of any team in the history of NHL draft lotteries.

Would be great for Columbus to land Lafreniere after losing Panarin and Bob.

Only way Columbus would make that trade is if they knew they had a chance at Rossi, Stutzle or Byfield to play at 2nd line center which fills a massive hole. So we’d need 3rd OA to Guarantee that. You’d probably also have to give up 5th OA because of how good Laf is compared to 2-5.

Odds are low CBJ would make this move even if they got 3 and 5.

Getting Laf would be huge for CBJ.

Odds are low that Ottawa make that grade getting two high end prospect is worth more then a left winger with elite potential.

On most NHL teams Bozak would slot in as their 3rd line pivot, and his cap hit is just too high for that. For the teams that COULD use him on their 2nd line, there's still a cap hit issue, and they'd find themselves trying to trade a less desirable contract and not getting a fair return because the other teams know they need that contract gone before the season starts to be cap compliant. All that being said, I'd consider the EDM 2021 5th and STL 2020 6th, but giving up more than that makes little sense for OTT when they could just overpay for a year deal with Soderberg or Brassard. Or we could go with Tierney, White, Paul and Asminov then just pick up a UFA winger. A lot of options...

You could absolutely get Rossi with the 5th OA pick. So you'd be getting Rossi with the OTT pick and Perreault with NYI pick and the DAL 2nd rd maybe adds Mukhamadullin for your D. Then there's still Balcers and Logan Brown attached to the deal. So, you can have ALL OF THAT or you can have Lafreniere. Hell, I'm not even sure I want OTT to make this deal... which I think means it's closer to fair than most people here are giving it credit for.

I mean. Laf is better then anyone in this draft or the next... it’s a hard player to give up if you have the pick. Columbus has only ever had one 1st OA pick and they traded to get Nash.

No denying that Lafreniere is the clear 1st OA, but some scouts have said that Stutzle is the better puck carrier and stick handler. When Ottawa traded Erik Karlsson there was no single piece coming back that I felt was anywhere near equal to Karlsson, but I knew the overall package was better for the team. I feel this deal could be that for Columbus.

But is it really? Columbus is missing the true superstar offensively. And that’s Laf... we seem to have good depth and a decent top 6 forming with PLD, Bjorkstrand and Texier as the main pieces. Adding Laf and Foudy mixed with Atkinson and Nyqvist starts to look really good. It would give us the offense to go with the solid D core and a good goalie tandem. Would Rossi fit in 2 years yes, would who ever we get with NYI fit in 3 years sure. Laf fits this year and pull them from a hopeful team, to a contender.
