That’s a hefty price tag

At that price they need to pass on Lafreniere

There's zero chance they do this trade. Do you think Laffy alone is going to turn this team into a cup contender?!?! You're giving lottery picks for the next two seasons too!

I will remove 2021 1st rd pic. What would be worth the offer or would Ottawa completely pass?

Maybe 5OA, 18OA, Brannstrom?

Just baiting to see who would offer the biggest reward for Laffy! If Chi got him, who would offer the most? Laffy and Nylander on each wing with someone could be a dangerous line next year potentially. The draft pics traded for them will not develop for a couple years at least if ever!

fair enough. I do think OTT would give the most, but IF the Hawks actually won the lottery. They keep AL for sure. They did go #3 then #1 in back to back year before....Toews/Kane...who knows.

Lmao I wouldn't do this if it was a two for one special and Ottawa was getting two Lafrenieres. The only player in the world worth anything like that deal is McDavid.

Reasons in the last 20 years to trade the 3rd, 5th and 18th overall for the 1OA. i agree with everyone about it being a long shot but these are examples of where someone would make the trade.
2001 ilya kovalchuk - alex svitnov, stanislav chistov, jens karlsson
2004 alex ovechkin - cam barker, blake wheeler, kyle chipchura
2005 sid crosby - jack johnson, carey price, ryan parent
2007 patrick kane - kyle turrris, karl alzner, ian cole
2008 steve stamkos - zach bogosian, luke schenn, chet pickard
2010 Taylor hall - erik gudbranson nino niederreiter austin watson
2013 Nathan mackinnon - jon druin, elias lindholm, mirco mueller
2015 connor mcdavid - dylan strome, noah hanifin, thomas chabot
2016 austin matthews- pierre luc dubois, olli juolevi, logan stanley

You can do that just as well in the reverse.

2017: Hischer -> Heiskanen, Pettersson, Vaakanainen

2014: Ekblad -> Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Tuch

2012: Yakupov -> Galchenyuk, Reilly, Teravainen

2006: Erik Johnson -> Toews, Kessel, Stewart

Also the trade isn't just 3rd + 5th + 18th, which I still think is bad for Ottawa, it's 3rd + 5th + 18th + 2021 1st + 2022 1st. Sens aren't a playoff team next year or probably the year after. That's two more lottery picks. It's an absolute joke of a trade.

Sens are very good at drafting and developing. I can confidently say that I would expect them to be able to take the 3rd, 5th and 18th best players in the draft, and develop them in to players that combine to bring more value over their careers than Lafreniere does on his own.

I agree that it is a far-out offer. That was the purpose to get a reaction of how far someone would go for the 1OA. Realistically however, 10 of the last 20 drafts show most likely that 1 guy can be valued over 5 other 1st rounders. A coin toss really, plus the offer had 3 more bodies returning, Nylander, an 8OA in the first round, Highmore a solid checking line forward, and Entwistle from team Canada and will be in the NHL. Lafreniere is also the undisputed 1OA which happens less than half the time as well. Not saying that Ottawa should or will do this, just showing that it is plausible that the trade could end up being 10 years from now that Ottawa would win that trade. No one would take that chance however.

If it cost more than 5th + 18th + 33rd + Logan Brown, plus maybe another 2nd, I don't think it would be worthwhile. Being guaranteed a star 1C like Stutzle or Byfield is too huge to pass up, even for Lafreniere.

If it cost the 5OA instead of 3OA I would def give up a lot more as we could get a 1C + Laf.
5OA, 18OA, two seconds and a Brown/Abramov/Chlapik/Paul/Tierny
Just another thought with the team getting the first pick most likely going for playoffs next year including some NHL ready players that are cost controlled or under a low cap hit such as Tierny, Paul, Balcers, Duclair, Wolanin might be as valuable to them as adding in another second round pick
