might as well toss Regula in for Koekkoek while you're at it. I could see them playing Hagel and Highmore over Smith and Carp, but I cant see them playing Beaudin over De Haan

I like this lineup a lot. I don't want them to try to lose at all. I just really want to use this experience for the kids. I don't want sheltered minutes for Dach. I want Debrincat/Strome back together. They're both better when they're on the same line. I want Boqvist to get as many minutes as he can get. Get Carlsson/Koekkoek more NHL ice time. I will say that Maatta will play over Beaudin, but if they gave Beaudin a game in the play in series...I wouldn't be upset either.

De Haan is injured, but agreed in theory just with Maatta.

***EDIT*** I forgot he might come back. My bad.

I think De Haan is expected to be back in time, no?

Beaudan really stood out in the 1 game that he played. I would love to see more of him

I think the initial line-up should be 3 scoring lines and 1 checking: with the center/lw combos being a lock to have consistency unless you shorten up lines or someone is playing well over someone struggling. Caggiula played well on the top line creating room and Saad played well with Kane as well. I really like Carlsson, Hagel, Beaudin and Sikura but I think they wait for an opening in the line-up. All RW's move up and down line-up as needed. Nylander adds scoring to the 4th line.
Kubalik-Toews-Caggiula
Saad-Dach-Kane
Debrincat-Strome-Carpenter
Highmore-Kampf-Nylander
Keith-Boqvist
De Haan-Murphy
Maatta-Koekkoek

This would be really great to see. I’d love to see the youngsters on defense especially get their chances. The only question I would have is how does this affect contracts? Beaudin in particular, because i believe as it stands his contract will slide for another season and still have 3 years left on it. However, I’m pretty playing any playoff time at all will burn a year.

Typically an ELC year is burned if they play more than 9 games. Beaudan has only played 1, so playing a max of 5 would be fine. However, i'm unsure if he stills burns the year off the contract because he was in rockford all year. Perhaps @ChiHawk would know?

Yes, ELC year is burned if a player plays 10 games or more of pro, this includes both NHL and AHL.

Actually, I believe that any player 21 or under actually slides if they play 10+ games in the AHL. A good example of this is Vince Dunn on the Blues. He signed his ELC in 2015-16 and juniors/college that year. In 2016-17, he played the entire year with the Chicago wolves in the AHL. Starting in 2017-18, he played with the blues full time. However, his ELC is ending THIS season. Ergo, that full season with the Wolves was a slide year.

Honestly, I think beaudin will actually slide still if he doesn’t play in the playoffs. That being said, while I’d love to see him get some chances, I’d rather have some cap flexibility that this team hasn’t had for over a decade.

Beaudan's won't slide, he played more than 10 games in rockford

You may be right. Beaudin is still shown as slide eligible on the hawks page, so I read that as “as long as he doesn’t play a playoff game for the hawks, he retains 3 years on his ELC.” Again, it happened to Vince Dunn in 2016-17 for the blues, so maybe it’ll happen for beaudin. Then again, Dunn didn’t play a single game for the blues in 2016-17, whereas beaudin has played a single game. His AHL season shouldn’t matter to his contract sliding this year.

It applies to players that are 18 or 19 years old in September of the current season and don't play 10 or more games in the NHL. The slide can be used twice both at age 18 and age 19

Dunn’s was when he was 19 and 20. Slide rules a little unclear at times. Could be one thing or the other.

If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year. For example, if a player signed an ELC for three seasons from 2015-16 to 2017-2018, and their contract slides, their contract is now effective from 2016-17 to 2018-19. An exception to this rule is that if the player is 19 on September 15 of the first year of their contract, and turns 20 between September 16 and December 31, their contract does not slide.

Players who sign at 18 years old are eligible to have their contracted extended for 2 seasons. This extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 in his signing year. Signing bonuses do not slide, and are paid to the player regardless of a slide, this causes the annual average of the players contract to change, and therefore the cap hit decreases for this player.
