Even if there's some risk to Johansen idk how Buffalo could say no to that.

BUF have to acc that
Miller is 2X better than Fabbro right now so switch them in your line up
Poile wont trade Watson, he just extend him

A 2021 2nd with no stipulation is more palatable but i dont see them wanting to move Miller and also dont see them wanting to take on 4 mill extra in salary. The Sabres are closer to the cap than people think

Obviously, I value Johansen much more highly than you. Here's the trade I suggested on May 19th:

It pretty much comes down to the likelihood rather or not you believe Johansen will bounce back or not and depends also on if salary is retained or not. 8 mil per year for any player isn't anything to laugh about and if he no longer can put up 60 pts a year and be a solid overall 2C then he isn't worth 8mil per year. Remember, Buffalo already has Skinner who will likely give value to his 9mil contract every other year as he has strangely shown throughout his career.

I checked out your trade proposal and it's good for the Sabres imo but with the 1st potentially going to Nashville that changes things for them I guess.

One issue someone had was the defensive ability of the bottom 6 but that could be solved by trading Johansson and signing Girgensons and Larsson and keeping the line of those two with Okposo together, trading Johansson might be easier said then done though even if he's still a decent player.

Really I think Buffalo needs to sign Haula, get Reinhart signed long term and see what a guy like Granlund or Namestnikov wants and if they can fit them in sign them, they really need to move one RHD for futures to free up cap space as well, with a flat cap and a lot of teams capped out trading MarJo and one of Ristolainen, Montour or Miller isn't easy to do.

It was actually your proposal from yesterday (Johansen for Montour/Johansson/2020 1st) that got me thinking along these lines. I think the value there was tilted too far in NSH's favour, so I tried to even it out a bit. I thought Montour was more valuable to BUF than Miller, but I could be wrong here. Sabres fans didn't seem eager to lose Johansson, and I don't see where he fits in with NSH. So I took him out, and added a mid-level prospect instead (it doesn't necessarily have to be Portillo, just that the Preds could use another goalie prospect at that age). Then I downgraded the pick coming back. I thought it could help both teams, but I'd be interested in hearing if you think there's room for negotiation here.

Miller is the last of the 3 (Miller Risto and Montour)I'd move and adding Risto also clears up the cap issue

I was attempting to create a proposal that Buffalo might be receptive to, in hopes of spurring a better debate. In the real world I think Poile could squeeze a little more out of the Sabres here, but I don't think asking for too much ever propels the conversation to a better place on here.

Your proposal is different. I don't know if it's necessarily a better deal for NSH. It really comes down to who's still available when BUF drafts. If there's a prospect NSH is absolutely in love with, I could see it. I think it would only happen on draft day, when the Sabres are on the clock. I can't see Poile trading away Johansen in advance of the draft, for a mystery pick, even if he's moving up in a deep draft.

I still think NSH does well here, without stealing any irreplaceable pieces from BUF. They get the #4-5 dman they need, a good pick and a useful prospect for their bare cupboard, while moving some salary.

I wouldn't say no to Montour. Zero interest in Risto though. Too expensive, and I don't see him being a good fit on the Preds.
