2020-21 Leaf Center Options

Description
Not sure what I am missing regarding some people's perspective of 3C options for the Leafs.

At the NHL, Kerfoot and Engvall were HORRIBLE at the faceoff dot and were proving themselves as misplaced wingers rather than legit options for 3 and 4 C. Kerfoot went a disappointing 191/216 and Engvall was a dismal 41/64. Ouch! Hyman was an embarrassing 70/90 BTW.

Facing the top centers in the league like Bergeron, etc Matthews went 506/414 and Tavares was an insane 617/499.

At the sheltered 4C Gauthier was an impressive 54.7% in 61 games scoring 7 goals in just over 9 minutes per game. Spezza also had an impressive 54% down from the previous years 58.2% (!!) playing sparingly under Babcock (cough) but still scoring 9 goals in 58 games with limited minutes compared to Kerfoot's 9 goals in 65 games at almost 15 minutes per game.

Spezza doesn't have a speed game...but he NEVER has. His game was based on hockey smarts and still is. He is rumoured to be willing to sign another league minimum deal of $700,000 compared to Kerfoot's movable $3.5 MIL. I would give Spezza the 3C role over other options.

Spezza - 58 games, 9 goals, 215/183 **Best overall option for value @ $0.7 MIL
Kerfoot - 65 games, 9 goals, 191/216
Engvall - 48 games, 8 goals, 41/64
Often signed Thornton - 70 games, 7 goals, 323/331 (ouch)

Let's move Kerfoot for defensive help and sign home-discount Spezza.

Barabanov replaces Johnsson's spot.

because faceoffs are like the 10th most important thing about being a centre and being bad or good at them doesnt mean you are either a bad or good center and anyone who knows anything about hockey knows that

its just bonkers the budget they have to fill the rest of their roster out with. they better hope for a big camp bump soon. If rumors are true that cap ceiling could be stagnant for more than 1 year, this team is going to be in deep trouble

Kerfoot is worth a 2nd to the right team, but definitely not to Vancouver.

I dunno he seems like an overpaid third-line center to me

He scored 40+ his first 2 full seasons, he can play wing and center, good passer, good hockey iq, absolutely fearless. But like I said to the right team he is worth it, but I do understand your position.
