Rasmus Dahlin contract

Created by: Sabres923
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2020
Published: Jun. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dahlin is eligible to get extended by the Sabres this offseason. He was on a 56 point pace this season, which would have gave him 100 career points as a teenage defenseman which is absurd. Hopefully they can lock him up for 8 years. But how much AAV do you think he deserves?

Probably a significant jump from the 8×8 that Chabot got last summer. My guess is North of 9mil on an 8 year deal.

He struggled early this year defensively
And his icetime was only 19min & change bc of his defensive issues
I’ve got no doubt he should improve on those,
but bc of that... right NOW... i think he’s worth 7mil per
Especially with what’s happening with the Cap the next couple years

That’s exactly why his agent won’t even consider extending now
They’ll wait until he has next season under his belt
And i wouldn’t be surprised if at that time they take a bridge deal, so he can really hit it big once the Cap is going up again

So maybe a 3yrs x $7mil deal
Then an 8year x $10mil deal
And if he’s winning awards by then, maybe even more $$$

Probably a 9x8 but could even be 9.5 cause he has to live in Buffalo which is definitely a factor. I wonder if he'll go for a 7Mx5 to leave faster

3 by 7 is risky. I think they should extend Jokiharju this offseason.

Why is 3x7 risky?
Career ending injury would be the only thing stopping him from cashing in after

I like your ideas of extending guys early
It’s just rarely done bc the player agents wanna get the most $$$ they can

Garbage take, Buffalo is a great city and we have plenty of players who continue to live here after retirement. The franchise isn't doing great but the city isn't some kind of pariah; unless you need a wild night life and something tells me that isn't exactly something Dahlin is concerned about.

8x8 seems fair, with a stationary cap he should get approximately the same as Chabot.

Imo it will be a game of chicken because Heiskanen and Makar can sign extensions too and nobody wants to sign first and set the bar for others but Chabot’s deal is the logical starting pt.

Dahlin is weird as f*ck when you listen to him talk. He strikes me as a nerdy Swedish kid and loves it here from everything he's said. I can't see him wanting out this quick. Seems to naïve for that to me.

I'll say 8x9.5m Rasmus Dahlin is the 2nd coming of Niklas Lidstrom.

8M x 8Y. The next season will be quite revealing. He is already working on his muscles and shot, also his game became better after an injury, he will add on the defensive, improve the shot, become more physical and will play 20+ minutes.

I doubt he signs this offseason unless he gets a huge deal. I could see him waiting until next season to see what Makar gets and use him as a comparable

Depends on his agent, not sure who represents him but it could be a shorter term deal cause of corona but could lead to him leaving in the future if they don't turn it around

I could see a 8 year 8.5-9 mil contract, but it wouldn't surprise me if he gets 10 mil

It will be criticized, but so was the Eichel contract.

They've produced pretty similarly through the first two years of their ELCs, But Dahlin has done it as A) a teenager and B) a former 1st overall pick. Those things matter on a long term deal. You're buying their future years, and there's a lot to suggest that Dahlin's future years will be even better than Chabot's.

I'm hoping he takes a 8 by 8 but that's awfully hopeful
