If you are going to trade for Fox, it will be Nylander + Liljegren + 1st. NYR can’t take on Marner’s contract & they have no has interest anyway.

Meh, Fox is going to be an elite number 1 defenceman.

I mean i you think about it we're paying Johnsson just over 4 million for only 1 of the 3 years and I think that's definitely a fair deal for him given he's averaged about half a point per game the last 2 seasons and is only 25

As great as your package is, Fox is untouchable. DeAngelo and Trouba are both expendable assets that you could go after, although they are both not good in their own end (Trouba is not good anywhere).

I have a hard time seeing any silver lining in this deal other than SJ getting fleeced.

I wonder if Adam Fox on an ELC has more value than Marner at 10.9 at this point

I definitely think we should take this

we're giving up Sorensen with 700k in retention and a 2021 3rd

a 3rd is a 3rd. The 2021 draft will be fine but nothing special.
Sorensen is a bottom 6 LW who averaged a little more than 1/3 a point per game in the last 2 seasons. Since we're retaining almost half of his contract and there's only 1 year left we're basically getting Johnsson for the 1st year at 4.1 million and 3.4 for the next 2 years.

Johnsson has averaged over half a point per game in the last 2 seasons. He's also only 25 so he's likely still improving. The only season where he played over 50 games in the NHL was the 2018-19 season where he was on pace for almost 50 points at the age of 24. That production didn't stop in the playoffs either that season where he averaged over half a point per game. I definitely think if we gave him a middle 6 role he could get to that production again.

I have nothing against the player. I would pass on this deal all day.
