Why Not Have Both

Created by: Rooster
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2020
Published: Jun. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
LA is stacked with forward prospects, particularly at centre so perhpas they are willing to slide to 5th to get Drysdale? Sens prefer Brannstrom at RD, so I am moving him there instead of his preferred left side. JBD and Lassi will soon join him on the right side.

No. The Kings need a forward more than they need a defenseman. They will not move down.

If anything, they might take a shot at moving up and drafting Lafreniere, depending on which play-in team gets the #1.

LA might have a lot of forward prospects, but Byfield or Stutzle will easily be the best prospect they have and a potential franchise changer. Ottawa would really need to make it worth their while

Noway Rob Blake make that trade, By all accounts he's going forward at #2, Besides Jamie Drysdale is definitely a target by Detroit at #4 so no guarantee's he goes 5th.

You think Detroit is going to take Drysdale at #4 after taking Seider last year? Two RHDs in consecutive years? I had my money on Rossi for Detroit.

I think if you added Lassi Thomson or Logan Brown, LA could think about it

It’s definitely possible. Seider played some LD in Grand Rapids last year and Yzerman/Draper preach patience and BPA. They could also flip one later for a forward if they all pan out.

@OP - So essentially Ottawa gets Vancouver’s first for retaining half on 2 years? I’m not sure Carolina would pull the trigger on that either so are you comfortable eating his full cap hit for 2 years?

The Kings are not passing on a 2OA or 3OA pick, regardless of their current pipeline.

I could see them going that way if Drysdale was the consensus BPA when it was their turn to pick. However, there's going to be guys like Raymond, Perfetti, and Rossi available, all of which are just as highly rated as (if not higher than) Drysdale. I'll be very surprised if they go with Drysdale at #4

Detroit isn’t a team that typically follows the consensus (look at last year of Yzerman’s initial draft with DRW). I think it will be very interesting to see what they do this year. Osgood and Devellano are part owners of Saginaw (Perfetti) and Hakan is a former board member or something of those lines up to like 2015 or 16 to Frolunda (Raymond). Like I said it’s possible they draft Drysdale so I wouldn’t write him off as you never know what can happen (injuries, trades, FA, etc) the next few years. It will also be interesting to see what Euro leagues start before the draft as that might give some of them an advantage over the NA guys.

Eriksson isnt even worth 3.25m for 2 seasons. I'd rather take him at 6 and get a first than get him for 3.25m while giving up a 7th. That scenario is 0.1% for him plus a 1st and 0.0% at 3,25m

if he was a righty and a FO guy, I would consider it.

if you paid NJ to take another half of his salary then pass to us, I would more inclined to accept but it still doenst seem worth it.

How can you decline? The Leafs haven't even lost to Boston in this year's playoffs yet. #2013

Once you start adding players to the 2 x 1st round picks, it starts to feel like we'd be giving up too much and we're better off just doing 3rd (Stutzle or Byfield) and 5th (Raymond, Rossi, Perfetti, Drysdale). It's really a nice problem to have.

I actually hope, and it's been said many times on Armchair GM, that Dorion packages the Isles pick, Brown and a 2nd rounder or two to make a run at Cirelli. Cirelli, Byfield, Norris down the centre would be quite nice.
