Probably not. So that trade doesn't make sense

moving down 5 spots isn't worth pawning off the worst contract in hockey?

If Chicago wins the draft the Ducks can throw in Rakell for good measures so you don’t get completely robbed

Hawk's will not get that desperate. We can afford to keep seabrook its not a problem at all. Would be like to move him? yes absolutly. But we aern't forced to. He wouldn't waive him NMC for anahiem anyways if at all. If we win Lafreniere, we 100% draft him. Stan shouldn't answer the phone regarding trade calls for 1st overall

Vlasic is the worst contract. But this would be a good deal

No. Especially a guy coming off double surgeries. He'll very likely end his career on LTIR. It's unfortunate, but true.

Seabrook is worse. Vlasic still is a top 4 defenseman and remains effective defensively. Seabrook is hardly an NHL player

If you are talking 10-15-16 you might be onto something. However, this is going down from 1-6and taking back Backes contract.

If we didn't need the immediate cap space, why would we downgrade so heavily? It's not like backes frees up any significant cap room for us.

Still not the worst in history, but that's not exactly something to be happy about.

You're a Canucks fan. What do you think of this article??? Dach for Seabrook and Podkolzin??? It didn't happen...AND it's a Hawks blog. I 100% get that. Just curious about your thoughts? 3-10...no contract back.

We had too many bad contracts to begin with. Half our team's cap would be cap dumps. The part that does it for me is Seabrook AND Loui would overlap the Petey and hughes contracts. I'm not losing one of those guys for this contract.

While I'd want to move Seabrook's deal, there are other players the Hawks can move to clear cap space. I do not think it is worth moving the #1 overall pick, especially when the Hawks are mediocre at best

The thing for Chicago is there are a lot of moving parts that can be dissected in our cap space. First and foremost, as most people talk about, Maatta and Smith have relatively cheap buyouts at 680k and 1.083 M respectively, and thats only if absolutely nobody wants them, and De Haan was still playing like a solid top 4 D-man this season before his injury, so Im sure somebody would bite on him as well. The next thing in the line is Toews, Kane, and Keith all expire on their contracts at the same time Debrincat and likely Strome if he takes a bridge deal too, so they would not be due for big raises until we get a bit of cap off the books, and the Seabs comes off the very next year. We are likely able to sign Crawford again, but it should not be for more than 2 seasons, as Dach, Boqvist, Mitchell, and Nylander would all come off their contracts a year or 2 before that point, so if we can get 2 of the 4 to take bridge deals for smaller cap, we should theoretically be in the clear. However, if Saad wants a raise, thats probably a no go and he might get traded at the deadline next year if we arent contending just to recoup some value and not let him walk for nothing. So like I said, lotta moving parts there, but its not unrealistic to say we dont have to pay a fortune to dump seabs

Nope, not a chance. Seabs can still play on the 3rd line, is one of the assistant captains and strongest locker room leaders for the team, can be bought out in 2 more seasons, and likely will work for the Hawks organization after playing. We aren't passing up on the closest prospect to McDavid since McDavid to move a contract we really don't need to move.

Kubalik won't get that much after 1 season. He likely signs in the mid $3's for 1 or 2 years.

Shaw is most likely done and on LITR. Smith will likely get bought out, De Haan or Maata will likely get moved. Hawks have the cap space to not have to pay to move Seabs....especially not for that price.

Why are the Sabres trading a 4th for an AHLer when they can sign 1 for free
