It's a stretch to say Johnson's cap is 'really hurting us.' Murray's regular season career SV% is .914, Carey Price's is .917 so year, franchise goalie numbers. Murray's numbers are actually better in the playoffs. His numbers were also back to normal before play stopped. We can also keep both goalies and 'let' Seattle take one, in which case Murray's value is the player we would otherwise lose - one of McCann, Blueger, or Hornqvist. Wouldn't trade any of those three for a 2nd and Lindstrom, so Murray's value must be higher than that.

I'm going to play devils advocate here. If you think Matt Murray is THIS GOOD. what do you think the arbitrator is going to give him??? $8-$9M??? That's not Price $...it's not Bob $...It's not Vasi $. But he's got 2 more cups than any of these players and you're comparing him to Carey Price. That's what an arbitrator is going to do. They don't give one single F what the cap ceiling is. They ONLY care about what other players have been paid and what they did to deserve those salaries. PIT's cap issues are PIT's cap issues.

Their fourth pick in the draft and a B+ prospect buried behind Sieder/Hronek and possibly Drysdale is too much for a potential franchise goalie? You're almost certainly overrating draft picks and discounting the reality that Johnson probably helps you more than Lindstrom does short term

Detroit isn't drafting Drysdale too many holes in another areas. Lindstrom was called up once and is now a Red Wing and will start the season in Detroit he showed more poise than half of the vets that played for Detroit. He won't score a lot of points but he also doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Hronek, Seider and Lindstrom could make RD the one position Detroit doesn't need to worry about for a long time. Yes that is Detroit's 4th pick in the draft but Detroit was far worse than any team this season and now the get the 4th pick in the draft. This will be Detroit's first top 5 pick in 30 years. Murray might have been a franchise goalie at one point but not anymore. How can you say he is a franchise goalie when his SV% .914 ranks him 35th and a GAA 2.67 and ranks him 45th when compared to other goalies during that same time. If he was a franchise goalie he wouldn't be traded. Jarry is a very good goalie but he hasn't put up 2 good seasons in a row. In the 2017-18 he played 26 games and had a SV% of .908 and a GAA of 2.77. In the 2018-19 season he plays only 2 games and SV% of .887 and a GAA of 3.50. Since they are the same age if Pittsburgh thought Murray was a franchise goalie Jarry probable would have been traded at last seasons TDL. Compare Murray's stats form this season to Bernier stats this season and Detroit gave up 69 more goals this season.

Thanks bud, but you’re delusional if you don’t think Murray helps Detroit

His warehouse of rebounds you can keep. Have no desire to take him. He doesn't help us right now, maybe in 2 years we could use a goalie, but right now not worth it.

We are also rebuilding, we have no need to give up young prospects and picks, so as delusional as you think I am, giving up what we need vs what you think we want is a big difference.

Maybe since all the wings fans on here say no, you can get it through your head that you are wrong and the entire fan base knows better then you. No where on planet earth are we taking JJ with Murray for a 2nd and Lindstrom. Prob should pick a different team with a fan base that doesn't know anything about their team or needs before you chirp 8 different people who all disagree with you.

Yeah, Murray, the one with two cups

And Chris Kunitz has 4 Stanley Cups. That doesn’t/didn’t make him a franchise player. Murray isn’t even the best goalie on his team.
