I assume Buffalo fans will be mad. I would agree I personally don't think Domi alone is worth a top 10 pick. maybe a late 1st? maybe more depends on the desperation of the team. if Domi can get you a top 4 pick what does Kuzy get #1 overall? Habs would need to add something big imo.

So 4 for 8 + (~40) + 2021 Montreal 2nd I’d probably pass on that. I’d much rather just stay @4 and draft BPA unless it was something like 4OA + 3rd for 8OA + 2021 1st Montreal (unprotected).

Might as well have the Sabres and Red Wings make the trade with each other without having Montreal involved as a third party...Then again that Wings trade isn't going to happen especially if you consider the Wings got screwed. (heck even one of the top 3 greatest leaders in Steve Yzerman was hardcore pissed after not only dropping 3 spots but learning that "playoffs team" will have Lafreniere) If you want to do the Sabres trade, you'll have to add 1 of the 2nd rounders to make them consider.

I Agree but I do think every team not going to the playoffs is upset with a playoff team getting #1OA. Since there will be no fans at any of the playoff games and they are using natural sites are the playoff teams going to make more money than non playoff teams?

Hmmmm. Buffalo could have a choice between Holtz, Lundell and Perfetti, or Max Domi. Hmmmm.

I think that Montreal's second would make it a closer choice for the Sabres.

As far as Steve Yzerman goes, I think you'd have to replace the 2021 second with a 2021 first and third to get him to think about it.

If Cory Schneider was worth a 9th overall, Domi is certainly worth an 8th.

The only person dumb enough to trade a top 5 pick for a top 10 pick was Mike Milbury. The value of a pick drop from 55% @ No 4 to 40% @ No 8 (https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/analyzing-value-nhl-draft-picks/). Yzeman is too smart to do that.

To get Yzerman to fall back even further you take a lot more than offered here.

Like you might as well mention how Kris Draper was traded for a $1 and say Laine for Alzner is must be fair

they are not horrible examples. They are facts going against your made up belief.

Find me better examples of top 5 being traded down or top 10 beeing traded for an active player instead of complaining. I'll wait.

The fact is that there is none. At least I did my research instead of throwing irrelevant trivia. You are welcome wink

Value wise both trades are accurate. I'd like to work in Poehling to that MTL trade somehow though:
4 = 53.4
8 = 40.6
42 = 8.7
8 and 42 = 49.3 + 2021 2nd, Unless Montreal wins the cup next year the value is spot on

Buffalo would need more than Domi and a 3rd for #8.

Domi/Danault are both 2Cs with differing strengths but neither are true 1Cs.

Domi also has the serious added risks of his pre-existing condition in this COVID world as well as the fact he only put up 44 points this year which is far more in line with every other year in his career besides his explosion last year. If I were a betting man I would say he'll likely be a 20g 30a(50pt) guy going forward and that isn't worth the 8th overall.

Danault would actually be closer in terms of player value as although he's a 40 to 50pt guy as well, he also brings a 50%+ FO% and is considered solid defensively thus making his point production less of a sticking point.
