What The Ducks Should Do

Created by: TheDers
Team: 2020-21 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2020
Published: Jul. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Ducks have a lot of work to do to fix up their mediocre defense, and there weren't many options available to them.

However, they do have a valuable winger that could bring some attention from a needy Oilers team with an RFA D-Man in Ethan Bear to give up, so I feel they could bite the bullet and take the deal.

Also, some depth signings were made and a cap dump of Erik Gudrbanson also had to happen to add some depth to the Ducks while getting rid of a complete liability.

All-in-all, the Ducks are in a better spot, but still capped out at around 35 wins. The contracts of Getlzlaf, Kesler, and Backes make it tough to do anything and the Perry buyout money puts this team in a stranglehold.

Well at this stage, Nurse is the anchor on that pairing so I wouldn’t say that, but they do compliment each other very well and it would take A LOT to trade for him. Certainly not with two 3rds for Silfverberg. Plus bear won’t a 5.5 cap hit next year, which would be extremely hard for Edmonton to fit in.

I assume you know nothing about the ducks. Rakell isn’t a center. Gudbranson is an NHL average Dman not a cap dump. Bogosian is bad. No thanks on Ennis. Kesler is on LTIR. Sherwood is an AHL player.

To which I would add, Jake Sanderson is the last guy we'll draft in the first round this year. We have 6 NHL-ready LD's under contract and two more in the pipeline.

He played remarkably well for us this year. He's a perfectly adequate stay-at-home partner for a third-pair youngster like Djoos or Larsson. I wouldn't get rid of him because even as this construction shows, Anaheim has no cap problem.

you haven't seen Guddy since VAN, he's been a solid 5 who can fill in as a 4 in a pinch since then...

Would love that Silf trade, def don't need to pay to dump Guddy, we definitely don'y need Ennis, Comtois and Heinen should both be in the top 9, Raks isn't a center, Kesler is LTIRed, Bogo is terrible, I would rather play Hakanpaa, and Sanderson would be the worst pick of the draft at 6 before you realize we have Mahura Larsson Thrun Lacombe and Guhle at LHD not on the roster

Haven’t looked at a ton of fancy stats but positive corsi% with almost 58% Dzone starts. 99 PDO. He’s been an average Dman for the ducks.

I don't know why we'd move Silf. One of the only scorers we have and we're weak at RW.

Our D isn't the problem, it's our forward group. Getzlaf's decline has left us 1 franchise forward down. That's hard to recover from, especially when you bust out on a top 10 pick (Ritchie). I have genuine concerns about this team and it's prospect pool. However, LD is one of those area. RD and RW is a real need for us, but our real aim should be getting any sort franchise/elite talent. I don't think Sanderson fits that bill and so the pick is extremely odd.
