BS Eichel trade

Created by: Stevierebz
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2020
Published: Jul. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Buf, you get 4th OA, a 40/40 guy, and a future 2C.
I know Eichel isn’t going anywhere, I just felt like jumping on the Eichel trade train. Personally, I don’t really even like this trade.
Oh, and plus; Det finally has a righty on every line.

Buffalo doesn't accept unless you replace Mantha with Larkin. In that case, Detroit doesn't accept.

Detroit's not gutting what very little prospect pool they've for Jack Eichel. If Detroit was a lot closer to competing for the cup. Then maybe a Jack Eichel trade would make sense. Detroit is worse then Buffalo and if Eichel is unhappy in Buffalo he'd be miserable in Detroit.

Eichel is better, but not that much better, than Larkin for Detroit to also include Veleno and 4oa.

Besides, Larkin is the face of the franchise, and it will take more than Eichel for Larkin to be moved.

Eichel is in a different tier than larkin. Larkin is very good but eichel has it by a bit

So if offered one for one you still think Det declines? I think you are wrong.

I didn't say that. On paper, no, Detroit does not decline.

However, Larkin means more to Detroit than what he's worth on paper because of the story line. I don't know what Yzerman does in that situation. The roster improves, but morale of the team and fans drop. In the end, hockey is a business.

people are acting like this isn't even close. they're delusional and i'm not even a detroit fan. Buffalo wouldn't accept this only because they are not going to trade Eichel. However, if they were to, this would be a very good deal. 4th overall, a top prospect, and a top 6 forward who's probably going to get even better in Mantha? Seems like a good deal to me. I don't know who'd top that offer around the league..

People don't realize that if you trade a Jack Eichel, Buffalo will not be able to win the trade no matter what. Because in any trade scenario, the other team will be acquiring Jack Eichel and he will simply be the best player in the trade. Buffalo wouldn't get the exact same value back from Jack Eichel. However, they will get something close in value. This deal is close enough, it's not "not even close"

You actually did say that right there, and now have repeated it. I think Det fans would get behind the obvious superior player regardless of storyline. So would Stevie. How would the morale of the team drop to get the superior player? That makes zero sense

Your third sentence was all that needed to be said. Buffalo won’t trade Eichel.

Because people have invested time and money into Larkin (tickets, jerseys, paraphernalia, TV plans, etc etc). He's the "hometown boy" who was the first to do a number of things since Yzerman came along. People look at him as some type of hockey prophet in Detroit. And for every reasonable hockey fan (both here and everywhere), there are 3-4 unreasonable ones who think out of emotion rather than considering that Eichel is the better player.

This is the exact type of return that Eichel would bring. Teams are never going to leverage there entire future for one single player who could blow out a knee, or suffer a career ending concussion. He will only bring back: A) a good youngish roster player (to replace him in the present,) B) a good prospect (to replace him in the future,) and C) a good pick to justify the move. A+B+C=Eichel. No more, no less. Also.. Larkin < Eichel. Any deal involving Larkin and Eichel has a significant add from DET.

*edited post because it got cut-off.

So I took this to a Red Wings discord channel to get a consensus...

1. Detroit accepts Larkin for Eichel straight up (BUF obviously does not)
2. Detroit does not accept Larkin + Veleno + 4oa
3. Detroit would be hard to accept Mantha + Veleno + 4oa, not because the value isn't right, but because we need more quality players than just 1 Eichel.

exactly. I've seen a ton of Buffalo fans asking for like 3 players (2 of em would be young and up and coming stars) , like 2 first round picks for one player in Eichel. It is straight delusional. I remember the delusion Sens fans had for Erik Karlsson trade proposals and honestly I just think it's the perspective Buffalo fans has on trading him.

#4th overall pick- if you draft right, that player can easily become an elite player. That's a fantastic pick to have ESPECIALLY this year
Joe Veleno- a former first round pick, and if developed right, probably a second line center or a real good third line center
Anthony Mantha- He's still fairly young and he has shown signs that he can be a monster. One day he will be a 40 goal scorer it's bound to happen

These three things are a great package. MAYBE add one or two pieces but it shouldn't be THAT big of pieces compared to the other 3. Like I said, Buffalo isn't trading him because they don't have to yet. If they were to, I don't see many teams being able to top this

1. correct.
2. correct.
3. DET would be lucky if BUF would accept this deal. Larkin is a good line driver but he is really the only one on the team. Keeping him and adding Eichel instantly gives you 2 good lines. Veleno doesn't even project to be Larkin. Mantha is good but is a complementary piece in any line-up.

Yeah, we agree. Buffalo doesn't accept #3, I only mentioned it for further context (since it was the original proposal)

Again I disagree. Buf fans have invested just as much in Eichel. But if Col offered McKinnon for him straight up or Edm offered McDavid straight up there’s no question Buffalo fans rejoice and immediately are happy, because they got the better player.

I do think the gap between Eichel and Larkin is bigger than you think it's but that's just my opinion and I'm not saying you are wrong or that I'm right. How we measure Larkin which is a lot more than just by his points and Buffalo views Eichel the same way. Looking at it by points Eichel has 111 more points in 35 less games. I don't see Larkin putting up points like that at center, maybe if you move him to left wing. He was the left wing on Eichel's line when playing in the USDP.

Your rationale makes no sense. If Buffalo knows that they can’t get equal value in return, then why would they trade him? Bottom line, Eichel is one of the most un-tradable assets in the NHL. His skill, age, position, and contract term all combined make it nearly impossible for any team to make a reasonable offer. That’s why these trade scenarios are laughable

Basically, Detroit doesn’t have the pieces necessary to get Eichel. Not that detroit doesn’t have any good players. They just lack the one thing that buffalo would need in return before they would consider any trade, which is a superstar 1C. In which case, why would either team make that trade unless both needed a change of scenery?
