How do you replace the single best 5v5 goal scorer in the game? I see so many people saying McDavid is worth every teams best 2 players + and yet Matthews who is A) a better goal scorer and B) a much better defensive player being worth 20% McDavid's capfriendly value. Its a joke, you just don't trade him. You can't replace him.

I think they did in this, but ARZ would be depleted and honestly it probably isnt worth it for them in the end

There is no way in hell the Yotes would do this trade. Too many assets to lose for a top 10 player in the NHL.

Exactly any Mathews trade or Eichel trade people put too much futures in it those are trades that would be used to fill out roster and rebalance roster with nhl proven commodities. Which is almost certainly collecting a couple lesser players for an overall roster improvement.

Of course they would. McDavid is the best player in the world. I don't ever dispute that. However, McDavid is not as good defensively as Matthews nor is he as good a goal scorer. Head to head McDavid beats him 6 out of 10 times. The point is they are far closer to each other than anyone cares to admit. Matthews is 100% a generational talent, he's the best goal scorer in the league at 5v5 and he's only 22. His value is immense, way more than people want to admit.

My best guess on value - with the (near-implausible) assumption that Matthews demands a trade to ARI aka the only way he's ever getting close to being traded - would be something like Chychrun + Dvorak + Soderstrom + unprotected 1st. Probably a better deal for ARI than TOR but that would be the circumstance of a trade demand. If Chayka is just calling up Dubas to see what it takes, it's probably something like what you're proposing here.

He's worth about 5 mid 1sts worth of value but the Leafs probably ask for 6 mid 1sts worth of value to move him.

McDavid is the best player in the world. That has been said countless times and no one disputes that. He's better than Matthews. Matthews will in the very near future be right there with MacKinnon as better than everyone else. Both of those guys are a lot closer to McDavid than they are to other NHLers.

ONLINE. if anyone says eichel is better (despite saying anyone who plays with eichel is carried by him and never saying that about matthews linemates and getting mad when matthews signed for more than eichel and eichel putting up a better PPG this year despite being on a one line team.)

Take Keller out , I'm sorry but his contract is quite terrible for a 50 pt player - Matthews costs - Dvorak, Soderstrom, Hayton plus 2021 1st, 2022 1st, 2023 1st all unprotected and maybe just maybe TO considers trading the franchise C they've been pining for 2 decades as he enters his prime

I also curious if you can be one of the best defensive centers in the NHL and not play any PK time? last 3 years hes averaged .01 ice time short handed. seems like a waste if hes that amazing at defense. or MAYBE some of those stats are misleading?
