I just feel like if OTT is taking on Loui, they shouldn't have to give up a 1st round pick.

Lajoie + 15th overall doesn't get Boeser on his own though

Still getting Brock Boeser. If anything Ottawa still needs to add more.

Youre right it doesnt. I just feel like they wont be able to sign those 4 big guys, give a raise to Boeser and keep Loui or buy him out. So even if Ottawa has to add to this, id still do it. Loui would expire when we need to re-sign our 2020 picks so we good from our end

I don't think that the cap will be an issue for another 4 or 5 years

I think the basic framework for the deal (packaging a good young player to get rid of Eriksson) makes a lot of sense for VAN, but I highly doubt it will be Boeser. VAN is entering a win-now phase after Benning gave up a 1st in the JT Miller deal, so it's way more likely that Benning would package another 1st with Eriksson, or Demko/2nd/Eriksson, etc. rather than give up a player as important as Boeser. I get that there will still be cap concerns by keeping Brock and trying to sign the other kids, but priority 1 will be to get rid of Loui without downgrading the current roster too much.

theres just no way they can fit Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser, Markstrom and Toffoli with raises

You're right, that's why I don't see any way they can afford to bring back Toffoli. Any extra cap space needs to go to a lower cost signing on the blueline, and even that can only happen if they can find a way to get rid of Loui's contract.

If they dont sign Toffoli, theyre going to sign a UFA RHD or bring back Tanev

Perhaps 3rd or 5th overall pick might work.

I think that definitely gets the conversation started -- but I think they'd want someone to replace some of his scoring back in the deal. Maybe Brown/Duclair + 5th might work for VAN, but I'm not sure if OTT is interested in that.

Ottawa is definitely not interested in that. If I’m trading the 5th overall +, I’m expecting Matthew Tkachuk or Kyle Connor back

Good luck with all your bad contracts and giving raises to Toffoli, Boeser, Markstrom, Pettersson, Hughes and signing a Dman in free agency

Markstrom is priority number 1. 3 big RFA Virtanen, Gaudette, Stecher. Toffoli most likely walks so be it. But the Canucks will have enough space to sign Pettersson and Hughes next season when many expiring contracts come off the books. Rafferty, Tryamkin or Juolevi can play on the backend next season.
