Why do people automatically assume teams are going to pay there best players way more than they are worth because a few Toronto players demanded way more than they are worth.

I think you meant to word that differently, right?

It won't cost that much, its a one year deal with retention

I paid slightly more for the 8-year deals although based on what Brock was willing to take I could see them taking less

Stretcher is a player that could help Dallas significantly on the right side. Not much more needs to be added.

And I agree with bf3351 Hughes won't get 10 x 8 more like 5x3 or 5 but Petry is a 10 million dollar player

I agree. Other factors come into play also. State tax is one that comes to mind. More money doesn’t always mean more money.

I could see Pete signing 8years for 9M or even less. He seems like a team first kid. Not greedy. Hughes I can see him trying to get all the money he can get tbh. I would imagine 7 or 8M for 4 or 5 years might work.

and they got a top 4 d-man and a 3rd rounder for it, he is still an ok bottom 6 forward that can kill penalties. I showed the trade to a Stars fan who would be willing to take the deal so I think the value is fair

Ok Boomer, first off, since when has a team ever paid more than one 1st to get rid of a contract and second, you must not know anything about Stetcher or the Stars...

I agree 100% Petey's got a mind set similar to Mackinnon, but I would have people complaining if I gave him less than 10mil

I never said more than a 1st - I said a first for each contract year which in this scenario would be a first as for the stars I agree Stetcher would help thier right side but they will also have a cap structure to worry about - Klingberg will be getting paid , Miro will be getting paid - so the 5 million is a lot to take on if they plan to continue to contend

Every time I did an ACGM that required these signings I had Highes at 7M and Petey an 9M, never got hate.
Matthew's gets 3 60/70 point seasons and he's automatically worth 11.6M just because there GM is bad at asset management. Petey can definitely shoot for that comparison, hopefully he doesnt lol

Does LE not have 2 or 3 years left on his contract?

MacKinnon signed for about 11% of the salary cap the year he signed his extension - Petey with same mindset puts him at 9.1 or so over 7 years if the cap is at 83 million

He does currently but this would be the team during the 2021-22 so he only has one year left

MacKinnon ELC stats 218 GP 59 G 153pts
Matthews ELC stats 212 GP 111 G 205pts

Maybe just maybe that's why MacKinnon took a "team friendly" deal and Matthews did not ,not to mention the salary cap when NM signed was 73 million and AM signed it was 81.5 million - now NM deal is certainly looking like a steal but at the time he signed he didn't have the stats to leverage a better deal

Or maybe it's rather simple, Matthew's is greedy and MacKinnon is not.

Sure maybe that's it if we're just straight ignoring both players Career during their ELCs

Mackinnon has said on his next deal he's gonna take less again
