I'd do that trade if you switched the first to two of your 2020 2nd's. Say the best and worst of the 3 (BUF & LVK).

Sabres pass. Just has shown too little to this point in his career to surrender that

I wouldn't do that. The players are more valuable to the Leafs than the picks.

I know AVS fans love the idea of trading Jost to Buffalo, but I just don’t see the fit. They are limited with the amount of draft picks they have. He’s not a 2nd line center based off his production, they have depth at LW, and Cozens/Mittlestadt will be the 3rd line center next year.

Not me. I don't want to move Jost at all, and definitely not for picks.

The Kings don't want Travis Dermott and don't want to trade away draft picks this year.

I’ve heard he has a solid defensive game, but him and Casey Mittlestadt have the exact same PPG.

You mean this?

Mikheyev
Dermott

for

2020 BUF 2nd
2020 VGK 2nd
2020 TOR 3rd

Mittelstadt scored 75% of his career points to date while getting 72.5 oZS%.... His numbers for CF% and FF% are among the worst in the league this season too. He has a negative takeaway/giveaway ratio, and is generally just unsuited to a bottom 6 role. Most of his underlying stats are trending downwards.

Meanwhile Jost is trending upwards and is a positive possession player (both CF% and FF% over 50% this season), plays an even 50/50 split in oZS/dZS, and has a 71/31 ratio of takeaways/giveaways. And technically speaking Jost's PPG is slightly better than Mittelstadt even though it's splitting hairs (0.356 vs 0.352).

Needless to say there's no real comparison here. Although they may have a similar ceiling, Jost's floor is as a defensively responsible 3rd liner (what he currently is), whereas Mittelstadt's floor is as a total bust who may not stay in the league much longer as he doesn't score enough for a top 6 role and isn't good enough defensively for a bottom 6 role.

Casey Mittlestadt most common teammates have been Vlad Sobotka and Connor Sheary. He has a higher ceiling than Jost, that’s my opinion. Jost wouldn’t move the needle in Buffalo.

I dont think Mikheyev is the player I would move a 1st for. Avs should keep their 1st unless they can get a proven top 6 winger with it in a package. No point in having Dermott in the Leafs deal either if were just going to flip him, we might as well just pay a reduced price for Mikheyev directly to TOR

Mikheyev is big, skates fast, plays physical, and has great vision, which make him a great fit on a line with two shooters in Kadri and Burakovsky. He also has great analytics and possession stats (around 55% CF% and FF%) and is also an excellent PKer as well which we need. And he's also relatively cheap. Not much not to like there, apart from perhaps the limited sample size so far.

I agree on Dermott, but I just went with the trade that was proposed by the TML fan. I'm not sure what value Dermott has, but if he can fetch a 2nd + 4th like in this AGM, then we're effectively acquiring Mikheyev for the price of moving down from a late-1st to a late-2nd and from a late-2nd to a mid-3rd, which seems like pretty good business to me. Especially if we could get a couple of reasonably high 2nd's from Zadorov/Jost trades (which may be able to be packaged to trade back up to a late 1st...).

That said, I don't think TML would do that Mikheyev + Dermott trade. Mikheyev in particular is too valuable to them given his low caphit. Him and Dubas seem to have a pretty close relationship too so I'm not sure he'd entertain an offersheet though I would certainly be open to throwing one his way.

Or just keep both players because they help us win now and in the future. This is pointless

It's a pointless trade. Both players are good and cheap and will only get better. Trading them even for a 1st isn't really a good idea for the now or future considering how deep they are already.

Im not against getting Mikheyev, I just would rather give lesser pieces for him alone instead of giving up more valuable assets in a bigger deal. I dont see why TOR would trade him instead of Johnsson or Kerfoot though, they would save more cap by keeping Mikheyev and signing him cheap
