Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2020
Published: Jul. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't like the $6.583M in dead money on the books next year AT ALL, but these moves do allow us to improve in key areas (3C, 2G) while retaining 2 of the 3 deadline acquisitions and also avoiding a James Neal buyout that would result in a 6 year penalty. The dead money drops to just $2.25M for 2021-22, allowing us to re-sign Nugent-Hopkins and Yamamoto, possibly Larsson too, so we should be in pretty good shape going forward.

It's not a perfect solution, but Chiarelli left a mess and anyone who thought Holland could clean up that mess in 18 months wasn't being reasonable.

Not as big on moving russell as everyone else. His contract only has one year left then very likely can resign for a massive discount in a depth role. Definitely wouldn’t retain as that penalty makes things even tighter to resign nuge and larsson and yam. I’m not sure habs would actually want Chiasson.

Definitely wouldn’t play green in front of larsson lol. I must be the last person that values defensive D. Especially in front of streaky goalies.

The retention on Russell has nothing to do with re-signing Nugent-Hopkins, Yamamoto or Larsson as their new deals don't kick in until Russell's contract is off the books.

If the Habs had a league average PP they probably would have made the playoffs legitimately. They need a guy like Chiasson.

It’s pretty good! I would of course like to get rid of Neal, but he would be a hard one. I’m curious to see if he will bring up Bouchard, and if Puljujarvi is actually going to come back for next season. Everything looks really good, I think we could get Green for 800K honestly to maybe play as the 7th defence man if Bouchard comes up.

It's not about who is better, I set it up that way because I think those pairings have complimentary skills. We know Nurse-Bear works and Jones-Larsson played well together in a small sample size (as 2nd pairing when Klefbom was out) and we know Tippett likes Green as he played him at 2nd pairing forbthe 2 games before he got injured, so this is not an unreasonable setup at all. It allows Tippett to basically roll the defense as all 3 pairings are roughly equal.

That would be ideal. I think Bouchard starts in the AHL (provided there is an AHL season) and gets the call when the first injury occurs. We'll see.

if there is no NCAA hockey, then I see him signing. I just don't want to lose him for nothing

I laid out my reasoning in a previous post on this thread:

I set it up that way because I think those pairings have complimentary skills.

If you run Klefbom-Larsson that means you have to shelter the Jones-Green pairing somewhat because neither player is a plus defensive player. And if you're giving that pairing the o-zone starts that means the better offensive players aren't getting those opportunities. Is that the best use of the talent available?

Honestly I could see Tippett going either way. We'll see how it shakes out in a couple of weeks if everyone is healthy.

Exactly why I signed him. I wanted to show the team's commitment to the player whether he signs this coming offseason or next.

Are you sure you want a player making 4 mil to be on your bottom pairing

There was some recent verbal from Kemp indicating that he would gladly sign. He wasn't looking at the depth chart as an obstacle but as a challenge. Says something about his character, I like that.

It's not the bottom pairing though, really. It's like have three 2nd pairs, you can just roll them.

It was the Bruins idea: Don Sweeney tried to trade for Khaira at the deadline, reportedly dangling Heinen as bait. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried again in the offseason.

So you're wrong. As usual.

"So you're wrong. As usual"

thats so horrible that you think like this

Bruins wanted to move Hienen, they got Ritchie instead. They dont want another bottom 6 player, they got him

You are "wrong again" lol

I guess you were not being a good GM with Khara here or perhaps you forgot he was not a rental. Late 5th yikes.
