Slow and Steady Wins the Cup

Created by: TCMonkey
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 2, 2020
Published: Jul. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Borrowed most of these trades from the fans of the teams Ottawa is trading with here. We will be busy at the 2021 Trade Deadline. Bozak, Tierney, Duclair, Anisimov will all get moved for picks. This means no cap issues at all even if 21-22 cap stays the same, and with Eriksson, Alzner and Ryan expiring by the end of that season. So $17.85M comes off the books; Ottawa will be in fine shape.
After '21 trade deadline we can call up Logan Brown, Norris, Formenton and Balcers.
Tim Stutzel remains in DEL, Jamie Drysdale & Tyson Foerster remain in OHL.

I wouldn't say its a crazy offer without Boeser they have to give up a first rounder and aren't getting any of those pieces back

We’ll buy out Alzner ourselves, thank you very much.

Ok but Abramov is 22 and spent most of his season in the AHL, while Boeser got 55 points in 62 NHL games at 21

Boeser hasn't improved since that season though. Ottawa needs to add a bit to this trade but I think the basic framework of the trade is good. Personally I think its Boeser and Eriksson for 33OA and L.Brown. Gives Van a young NHLer for the third line center at a low cap hit

I actually like that deal. Alzner cant really be bought out till next off season so getting rid of him early gives us a lot of flexibility

Ya really any combination of three or so assets that have been mentioned would be good. Only thing is would like to trade up with the NYI 1st into the top 8 and then also trade for Boeser

Could you imagine drafting Byfield, Drysdale, Holtz and still trading for Boeser? DAMN

Give me Raymond or Perfetti instead of Drysdale and you don't have to worry about a top 6 forward for the rest of the rebuild.
Tkachuck - Byfield - Boeser
Holtz - Perfetti - Raymond
L.Brown - Norris - Batherson

Thinking about it we might as well draft Drysdale and Askarov. With all the guys listed above plus:
Formenton
Pinto
White
Duclair
Balcers
Abramov
Gruden
Paul
Davisson
Kelly
Chlapik

we def have enough forward prospects to fill out a roster

Yeah, MIN has already done the Mikey Reilly experiment. Didn't work out for us. Lest people forget that we drafted him.

Furthermore, we don't need defenseman. We don't know what we have in Chaffee yet and more importantly he's a RHS player which are at a severe premium in our organization.

So thanks. But no thanks.

Injured? I said you cant buy Alnzer out till next off season so unloading him now is a bonus

I think Subbanator is reffering to the fact that even if you did buy Alzner out this season it provides very little cap relief and just extends the amount of time you have him on the books after that

I hear you. But to be fair, Reilly was decent in his 30 games for Ottawa. He put up 12 points and got 64 shots on net - on a bottom dwelling team. That's better than all but 3 of your D core. He's a very viable 6th or 7th D man on most teams so if we really needed to open a roster spot up we could always see what happens when he goes on waivers.

The only thing stopping anyone from buying out anyone is an injury. Otherwise everyone can be bought out, NTC or not.

It’s about the same if we buy him out this year, except about $800K is moved to 23-24, instead of being spread out in 21-22 and 22-23. The main difference would just be whether or not Alzner is in the organization this year, which IMO it would be better if he wasn’t to make room for younger players.

Either way the buyout penalty isn’t that bad, and it certainly isn’t enough to warrant giving up Fleury + a 2nd to get rid of.

That's okay. Not an integral part of my plan. I think the future of our right side will be covered fine with Drysdale, Bernard-Docker, Thomson and Zub.
