I think this trade could work well for both teams.

Minnesota really needs a center on their top-line. Cirelli could be that. He may be unproven, but has high potential. Wild has one of the best defenses in the league (altough it may not seem like that because of the horrible goaltending) and can afford to lose someone from there in order to improve at center.

Tampa, on the other, hand needs reinforcements on their RD, as they currently have absolutely no-one there. Also, Tampa has a deep center core so they can afford to lose Cirelli, a pending RFA.

Now, I know that Tampa is in a tough situation cap-wise. They have Cirelli, Cernak and Sergachev, amongst others, to sign and a hair over 5M in cap space. But in this scenario they get the reinforcements they need with the money that would have gone into Cirelli's contract. They are going to have a tough time no matter what happens and may not be able to keep all of their young stars. If it helps, Wild can retain some salary.

And if this doesn't work the Wild can just offer sheet Cirelli.

This seems good. Yes TB would have other issues to work out but maybe this helps them not spend on D and save money there to pay for an RFA. Maybe it helps them ship out an LD. I like it. Min might think they can get a better player for Dumba but I doubt thats a lock. 9/10

Overall, not many issues. But, it’s a stretch to say that Cirelli is a number 1 center and I still think Dumba is unfairly underrated. The Wild shouldn’t be that desperate to get rid of him

We're not. All things considered, we don't want to move any of our top 4 D. But we're going to lose one of Brodin or Dumba to the ED anyway, so it's better to move one of them now, and get a top six C while we can.

Add on top of that we're pretty deep on the right, so we can afford to lose Dumba more so than Brodin, especially considering we now have a viable replacement in Addison.

I find it doubtful that Cirelli would be pushed into top line duties from the get go. We still have Staal under contract for another year. Smart money is to have Cirelli play 2C for the first year in order to give him time to adjust to the team and system, and further refine his craft under Staal who plays a similar game. After Staal's contract is up Cirelli takes up the 1C spot.

Cirelli better suited as a 2C. 1C is asking too much of him. TB still hasn’t fixed their cap issue either unless the next move is trading Sergachev. All in all a decent trade but suits Minny fine but not so much TB cap wise.
