Dubas would over rule your RIelly and Kapanan trades and ask you what are you thinking.

I don't mind this. I would maybe juggle the defensive lines a little.
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Ekblad
Dermott-Lehtonen (I think that gives the best spread of skill throughout the lineup, could play the Ekblad/Dermott pairs like 2nd pair minutes (each pair is 17-18 mins/night, could also flip Sandin and Dermott early)
I'd also put Spezza as the C on the 4th line. Would rather see Kerfoot traded as opposed to Kappy (even if it means getting a lesser return)

I wouldn't dislike a 3rd line of
Barbanov-Nylander-Kappy
Makes the 2nd line
Robertson-Tavares-Mikheyev

I would keep Nylander with Tavares all day every day. Also those pairings are not good.. Sandin is not ready for minutes Ekblad would play and Lehtonen is likely getting paired with Muzzin.

Muzzin is a lock to play with holl but trading rielly for ekblad is absolutely the smart move by far

You’re right, this isn’t serious. Ekblad > Rielly and Kapanen is worth ONE 2nd.

Rielly's known as an OD, but only has had 1 10+ goal season. Ekblad already has 5 10+ goal seasons. Give Ekblad the forwards Rielly has and his points increase too

Good kapanen trade, for both teams and the player.

Interesting florida trade, not sure they do it with yandle already on the left side

Biggest problem for Panthers is Rielly's term. His two years are considerably less than Ekblad's 5, and Rielly has little to no reason to stay in that f*ck up of a team.

I hope for Laf's career's sake he wouldn't end up there.

would be a really solid top 4 tbh. Plus moving rielly for ekblad would allow sandin to play more minutes which he seems like he is capable of. it would never happen obviously but it would be a good trade for toronto.

from Florida's perspective they could run...

Rielly-Weeger
Yandle-Stralman

and probably just trade Matheson to the highest bidder. Could work for them too.

I mean obviously the organization isn't great but a forward core of: Laf, Barkov, Huberdeau could be something great to build around. Especially if guys like Noel, Tippett, Denisenko, etc... pan out

its not like Barkov/Huberdeau are bad to play with either. good supporting players in Hoffman, Trocheck, Dadonov as well. sure its no Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Tavares, but its close

Kappy is worth a mid-late 1st. He's a good 2nd line player, and can be a guy to depend on to get the boys into the game. He can check/play hard minutes. I really like him as a player, and would hate to lose him

sorry to reply to this thread again, but I really think you're discounting the skill of Rielly. Sure, Ekblad has 5 10+ goal seasons (12, 15, 10, 16, 13 - 12 per season on average vs. Rielly's 8 on average), but his assists aren't as good as Rielly's (31 for Rielly/season, vs Ekblad at 23.5/season). Rielly has alo hit the 50+ point mark twice, with one of those seasons being at 70+, while Ekblad has passed 40 points once)

Ekblad career stats (22:31 - TOI, 51.3% CF, 51.8 oZS%) - outlier being his 38 pt season with 58% dZS.
Rielly career stats (21:40 TOI, 50.1 CF%, 49.1% oZS%) - outlier being his 72 point season with 56% oZS.

Ekblad definitely has the defensive stats that the Leafs desperately need, while Rielly offers the Panthers more offense, and cheaper salary (which the Owner wants to cut back on the overall money spent on the team)

Is the trade even, likely not. But its closer than you may think
