Worst case scenario next season

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2020
Published: Jul. 3, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
None of Johnson, Palat, Gourde or McDonagh are willing to waive their NTC’s to go anywhere, and none of the teams that are on Killorn’s list make an offer for him. Instead Tampa basically has to give him away to whichever team on his list will take the contract.

This still forces Tampa to trade both Cirelli and Sergachev for draft picks as neither are willing to take a discount for their services, but they do get high end picks for each of them. They can then just barely afford to bridge Cernak and cobble together the rest of the 23 man roster.

I think Tampa would put Cernak's $3m towards Cirelli, and move Paquette as well to scrape together enough to resign him. Assuming that he's willing to take a bridge.

Colorado would gladly take Killorn at that price. Assuming of course that we don't have grander plans for someone like Hall or Pietrangelo.

$4,227,438 for a 1st.
Something tells me teams will try offer sheets before trading those picks away. If they are smart they coordinate and do it at the same time.

Killorn has value. So does TJ and Palat. Move them. Keep Cirelli. Move Gourde into the top six and hope he re discovers his scoring touch

Cernak ain't worth that much. Would offer him a 1x1 contract. But yeah even if the worst possible scenario happens this is sustainable.

Btw Killer was in pace for 60 points...who in their right mind would offer a 5th for him...that's madness.

Cernak will have a fair number of teams ready to offer him well over 3m on an offer sheet. 1x1 is ludicrous. He played top 4 on a good team, had good possession numbers, has size, kills penalties. TBL lowballs him like that and he’ll definitely sign an offer sheet.

And I do think Killorn will be traded, but the return won’t be what it would’ve been a year ago with the new economic reality.

1x1 follows the logic that of Labanc, DeAngelo and Pettersson signed this year. Granted it's wishful thinking, but I wouldn't call it impossible.

If I had to guess they'll ink him for one year around a $1M contract, and then give him a bigger contract if SEA takes McDonagh's contract...ofc this is purely hypothetical.

wouldn't be hard for call records and chat logs to be found by the NHL, and I would assume they would punish teams that do not comply

It's true some teams would be lining up for an offer sheet with later 1st round picks, but if Tampa is smart they try to resolve this situation by trade before another team can ever make the offer. Both Cirelli and Sergachev would fetch a very good return in a trade before the offer sheet window opened.
