Description
The Minnesota trade is based on some big "ifs".
If Karlsson, Zuccarello, and Spurgeon all agree to waive their clauses.
I think it could be done by telling Karlsson if he doesn't waive then he will be stuck here through a rebuild.
Zuccarello and Spurgeon may be enticed to waive if they are told the Sharks are gearing up for a run, but like I said lots of "ifs".
I know Karlsson is a better player than Spurgeon but Spurgeon is a elite defenseman who has a better defensive game than Karlsson and he will be able to hide Vlasic's flaws better than Karlsson can.
Not sure the Wild willing take on all that money but it's worth considering. Jones may be on the decline but if he is used in a 1A/1B goalie situation with Kahkonen he may be alright, and Wild can expose Jones in the expansion draft.
I'm not sure how the value is on the Rangers trade but I think Georgiev and Strome could be a nice fit in San Jose.

Rangers decline mostly because Dahlen wouldn’t really get a shot behind all of our other wingers and True isn’t a great fit. But Strome for those 2 2nds works.

Interesting Minnesota trade, I just dont know about the value, but I really like the Rangers trade, I would prefer the sharks 2020 2nd instead of Colarados though

I think the san jose trade is terrible for minnesota.

jones is awful and zuccarello while expensive can still produce and spurgeon is 4 million less per year than karlsson

The Minnesota deal is great for the Sharks but I have no idea why the wild would do that

The reason Wild do it puts them in great position for the Expansion Draft. Additionally Spurgeon is good but Karlsson when fully healthy is amazing. Jones contract is bad but he is only 30 and will finally be well rested I doubt he will ever be great but he will likely bounce back a bit and give the Wild the option to slowly work Kahkonen in as the starter. The biggest drawback for the Wild is it locks up 4 million more for a extended period of time and that could come around and bite the Wild.

Jones has been downright awful the last two years. Granted he may not hurt your team as much playing fewer games but I think that is a bad plan paying a goalie just under 6 AAV and trying to limit the games he plays because he is just not any good. Also Karlsson has not been fully healthy in several years and with the foot injuries he has had and the reliance on him being an elite skater to allow him to be the best version of himself there is a very good chance that he tops out around 60 games per year and is just good for the rest of his career. That is a ton of money to have committed to that player for that being the likely return. There is also the chance that he just continues to regress and in 2-3 years that contract cannot be moved and he is bottom pairing level defenseman

It's a gamble, no doubt Karlsson would have to be scrutinized very heavily during the trade physical.

Generally if yu're trading for your new 2C and starting goalie, you have to give up something of value. Replace the 2020 Col 2nd with the 2020 SJ 2nd & it's closer
