Other side of Wild Shark trade

Description
I'm not certain the Sharks trade is a good one and there are some no trade clauses that could obviously derail it. Down side it ties up a lot of money. Wild medical staff would definitely have to scrutinize Jones and Karlsson.
I'm not definitely sold that it's a good idea for the Wild but I could see it working out well for them. It does tie up a extra 4 million but I think the numbers still work for signing extensions on all important upcoming RFA's.

@MNBassman , @TanSor , @wabit, @JayTea interested in your thoughts on this. Not real attached to the idea but assuming we draft a early center who can play in a year or two I think it might set up nicely.

Sharks say no pretty easily. We are trading Erik Karlsson and only getting one piece worth anything back and its a rental D man whos 30.

I'd rather have Spurgeon than EK to be honest. EK is more talented, but Spurgeon has been better (IMO) the past couple years. It would be nice to get rid of Zucc but overall I think our roster is worse after this trade and the cap situation isn't much better.

Spurgeon is signed for 7 more years at around $7.5M after his $5M deal is up

Well thats slightly better but still no. If we trade Karlsson we need young talent or picks coming back, not older players on huge contracts and a bad backup goalie.

Nobody's giving up young talent and picks for an old injured karlsson on arguably the worst deal in the league

That's what I'm banking on with this trade but no guarantees.

Ok then we will keep him. Literally still one of the best D in the league still. Zuccarello is up there on his own for worst deal lol

Thanks for taking Jones. And i would happily make the Zuccarello Jones trade I presented weeks ago. But. Karlsson is still an elite defenseman and by far (its not even remotely close) the best player in this deal. So its a pass for me.

I'm ok with the Jones for Zuccarello deal. I like EK. The last year or two Spurgeon has been better but I think with the time off EK will be all heeled up and back to his stellar self. I thought maybe the cap relief would be appealing.

This is pretty intriguing to be honest. I’m not sure I like it value wise, but the concept is not bad.
