GMJR has work to do

Created by: knobhandle
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2020
Published: Jul. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The specific trades may as well be place holders, but this should hopefully be their priorities:

1. Trade Murray for a top 6 winger
2. Trade Bjugstad for Cap Relief/RHD
3. Dump JJ's contract, even if some money needs to be retained
4. Make sure Seattle drafts Hornqvist and/or Tanev next summer

3 years for $2.2M does not warrant any of that. People are delusional if they think that's what it will take to move JJ, especially if the Pens retain salary.

You're delusional if you think any team will take Jack Jonhson off your hand for free, no matter how much money you retain. No team will take him because they think he's good, they'll take him because they would get a nice piece attached to him (especially DET) , either a 1st or good prospect.

Once again, delusional if you think hawks wouldn’t trade a middle 6 40-50 point forward for a legit starter in Murray who had a down season. That trade just needs to die.

He was almost moved before this past season until they were able to place Rust on LTIR. He is not making $5M+ and trapping the pens from being able to make moves, they are not desperate, nor is there any trade restrictions on the contract. I'd bet my life if he is moved a 1st round pick would not be attached in the trade.

Its more or less a place holder as I mentioned, but considering Grubauaer in 2018, who is more or less a similar asset to what Jarry is, got a mid 2nd and had Orpik's contract attached, meaning he was likely worth a late first. Murray, who could boost his value a ton in these playoffs, should be that at a minimum.

Saad is likely a similar asset to Zucker, which cost a B prospect, late 1st, and Galchenyuk (likely just for salary purposes). But Zuker also had 3 extra years at a reasonable cap hit, so Saad is likely worth a little less since it'd only be for one year.

Pens will trade Jarry over Murray unless Murray absolutely sucks in the play ins

Agreed this trade needs to die. Saad is one of the best two way wingers in the game , and is entering his prime. I've never been sold on Murray as being an elite goalie, the problem is he's gonna need to be paid between 5-6 min this offseason. Its not worth it for a guy thats coming off of a .898 save percentage. Crow is far superior to Murray,I dont care about their ages, crawford is far better. We can ride crow for 2 more years and then trade/sign an UFA at that point for a replacement. No need to give up one of our better forewards. I don't want murray no matter what the price is. I'm not convinced he's all that good

Dude, you're a smart guy. Crawford is better for the Hawks....by alot.

Crow's A.) never had as bad a season as Murray did last year. NEVER. B.) Crow was the single best HDGSAA in the entire NHL. He was a high danger beast and the Hawks gave up the most shots in the entire NHL. C.) Signing Crow doesn't cost a top 6 forward. D.) Murray's arbitration scares the heck out of me. Hawks won't likely be able to afford him. Arbitrators aren't going to look at one season and say....he's worth $5M... They're going to look at what other goalies got and what their achievements were that got them the contract they signed.

There are zero reasons to make this trade from the CHI point of view.

Murray was also better last season with a .919 save percentage. I think we can all agree Murray was horrific this year. no denying that. but you don't trade a young goalie with huge upside for a pending UFA middle 6 winger. Its a panic trade that will hurt a franchise for years to come. I keep reiterating the point that Pens wont be trading Murray unless he absolutely sucks against MTL which I dont see happening.

Honest question. What do you think he'll be awarded in arbitration? I really do think there's a non zero % chance he becomes a UFA. Hawks can't afford him.

it depends how he does in the playoffs. if pens make a run with Murray in net, they will probably give him a 6X6 ish deal. If he blows, then we will be sitting here a few months from now re-evaluating trades. Pens aren't going to give Murray a leash as long as they gave fleury when he was awful in the playoffs from 2010-2013. He wasted multiple Stanley Cup chances with prime Sid and Geno. As of right now, Murray is not going anywhere, but things COULD potentially change depending on the outcome of the COVID Cup

You think he'll sign for 6X6? As a Hawks fan (that's acquiring Murray in this situation) I'm VERY worried that we're trading for a guy that's about to have an arbitrator say $8M+. I hear your point on just one year. I'd actually argue Crows worst season was equal to half of Murray's career, but he was a phsycho mad man in both PIT's cup runs. Hawks can't afford $7M in net and then he'll just be a UFA. Murray's just getting off signing his team friendly deal. Now is supposed to be his time to get paid. I really do think there's a chance (maybe not a big one) that he becomes a UFA this "summer". Binnington was just awarded $4.4M and he was a rookie with less than half a season under his belt. 4 seasons and 2 cups....it's going to be big.

I don't think an arbitrator would say 8+ million just because of his inconsistencies in the regular season. I see him in the 6 ish millions with term. I mean if pens won the cup with him in net then potentially yes he could be looking at a bigger payday, but if they lose in lets just say the ECF with him being very solid and starting the whole way through, I see him at around 6-7 ish million

Wings finally get out from some bad defensemen contracts and I doubt they take on another who is not young or mobile.

Dude come on you know better. Crow is a way better option for the hawks. He's always consistent, has better numbers than murray, will have a lower cap hit, and most importantly doesn't cost us a top 6 forward

okay then keep Crow lmfao. most pens fans don't want to sell low on Murray, and hawks can just sign a 1B for Crawford. like I said, just let the trade die

The Saadamites on here are hilarious to read. They have no idea what a power forward is, nor a two way forward, but are so fast to pronounce Saad is one of the best. Hysterical.

One thing that I do agree with them on though... I wouldn't trade Murray for Saad either. Maybe Saad at 50% retention... but even then is his 40 points of non physical barely defensively responsible play worth it? It might be worth the $3M, but not worth Murray.
