Now, this is a fun trade.
Predators have been trying to get rid of Turris after he didn't become the top-6 guy they hoped. He has an awful contract that has 4 seasons left with 6M AAV. Turris is 30 years old and hasn't cracked 20 goals or 50 points since 16-17 with the Senators. He is a 4th-line center in Nashville.
Minnesota does not have centers. Koivu really isn't worth re-signing and Galchenyuk will most likely bolt in free agency. That leaves Staal, Eriksson Ek, Kunin and, the legend himself, Victor Rask as the guys in the middle. While Turris is bad, he would still be an upgrade over Rask. His 31 points would've tied with Kunin for 2nd amongst Wild's centers. He would be a solid two-way 3rd-line center for the Wild, moving down Rask and possibly letting Kunin move to the wing.
And Zuccarello is expendable for the Wild. His contract is also awful and at the age of 32, he will start declining heavily soon. He had a better year and is a better player overall than Turris but plays a less significant position than him. Also, Wild has a lot of good wingers, especially if Kaprizov comes over, so Zuccarello wouldn't be guaranteed a top-6 spot next year. And he really needs that to be effective. In Nashville Zuccarello would receive a top-6 spot; his 37 points are beaten only by Forsberg from Nashville's wingers.
Turris and Zuccarello both have identical contracts going forward. Both get 6M with the deal ending in 2024. So that means there is not really any salary going either way, it's just shuffling two bad deals around.
In conclusion, Predators simply get the slightly better player and Wild gets the positional need. No-one takes any salary or any term. Win-win, or lose-lose if you're a pessimist.
