Not close, better bet is to go after someone like Nolan Patrick with potential upside as opposed to a 1C

Long term probably yes - but with an impatient Fan Base (every right to be) impatient owners and an increasingly more frustrated Jack and possibly Dahlin (a few more years of losing and he will be) paying a big price for Couturier ( I'm not ruling out 2020 8 OA and Cozens) will relieve the "take Eichel out of the game and you beat the Sabres" option for opposing teams , with a player like Couturier Sabres would improve at both ends of the ice likely start hitting WC spots and all of the sudden Sabres are in the mix on KHL FA, College FA and NHL FA

I feel like Hayes is a more likely target. His contract has been very badly received, and Buffalo actually has room for it and a need for a 2C. Would cost a lot less too

How often does a team swoon a player is FA give him a massive deal only to trade him the following season? Probably wouldn't look to good on Philly if they were to do that , if Nolan Patrick still has all the upside of a 1 C then may e hang onto him cause getting 8 OA plus the package above or Cozens could be in Philly's best interest

Couturier is a perennial Selke finalist and front-runner for it this year. He's essentially untouchable. The pieces listed aren't NHL ready yet, or in Middelstadt's case is development was likely botched badly. The value isn't there for a team that is turning into a win-now mode.

Hayes is not going to waive is NMC to go to BUF. His contract is a bit overpriced, but he has done well to quiet that down a bit with the fans for now.
