The Markstrom value is hard to tell for me imo. He’s a true number 1 goalie (top 3 in the league this year) but I couldn’t really figure out his value due to the age

i wouldn't trade jokiharju OR a first round pick for him

ullmark is our goalie. he is 4 years younger, millions cheaper and has the same career save percentage.

The way I looked at it was Markstrom can come in for 3 years, be the elite goalie that he has been the last 2 seasons and take UPL under his wing. Thought they were the perfect team. Markstrom > Ullmark by far until UPL comes in

joki was one of our top d men this year so the sabres aren’t looking to move him

no, not by far. markstrom had a .03 better save percentage than ullmark last year. thats like 3 goals over a season. ullmark will cost 2.5 million, markstrom will cost 7. and you want 2 A level assets. No. not even close.

Fair enough. I looked at the RHD and the goalie issue in Buffalo and thought it would be a good match. Markstrom is a true number one goalie and could get the Sabres into the playoffs

the difference between them isn't worth 5 million a year plus jokiharju plus a 1st round pick, which is my whole point.

I disagree. You could maybe move the dman to someone else. But The Sabres are filled at the RHD side and the Sabres urgency to make the playoffs needs to be high. This trade brings in a legit number one goalie while the Sabres still have Risto Montour and Miller on the right side. Eichel might leave if the management doesn’t show urgency

yes the sabres have an extreme goalie problem but i just don’t think markstrom would be our best option to fix it

the trade you are proposing and the subsequent salary markstrom would command is utter foolishness. jokiharju is a top 4 defensemen at age 20. the pick you suggest is pick 12, a lottery pick. just stop.

we do not have an extreme goalie problem. we could use an upgrade at back up goalie.

we have an extreme talent deficit problem and spending big money and big assets on a goalie is insane.

if we wanted to do that we would sign him as a ufa, not gift you 2 huge pieces.

The trade is made around the draft. This is confirming the Sabres are locked in at 12, so no talk of a lottery pick. Markstrom won’t get anything about 6.5 at the MOST. Markstrom has been an elite number one goalie for the past 2 seasons and he would be that piece that gets the Sabres into the playoffs at the very least. I think the trade is worth it for the Sabres. Can’t rebuild forever

You have a massive goalie problem until UPL is ready

Canucks won’t let him get to UFA. They’ll sign him and trade a goalie before the expansion

They don’t. Ullmark had a .915 save percentage, he has some injury problems, he got hurt in January when they were 6 points out of the real playoffs. They would have made the 24 team playoff if he stayed healthy and probably would have stayed in the race. They lost 7 games by one goal when they had a blind man in net.

Also, not to torpedo your point, but the reason they lost so many one goal games is because they had one freaking line. The middle 6 was nonexistent, and bonus- we wont exactly have cap room to extend dahlin and jokiharju if we take on a 7 million dollar goalie. Are there ANY goalies in the league you would give up 12oa for, let alone add for? Not me.
