HC Gronborg

Created by: C_M_O_R
Team: 2020-21 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2020
Published: Jul. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This AGM roster has been reworked several times in an attempt to make a trade work. I personally think NYR needs to trade Lundqvist rather than buy him out to open up cap.

The 1st round pick from NYR is the higher of the two picks, unless that pick is the lottery winner.

Defending Big D posted an article on Grönborg. It could work.

DeAngelo played LD in OHL Junior's and put up the most points as a Def in his draft year well higher then Ekblad and is set to play along side Trouda on the top line leaving room for Lundkvist on the right side. Lundkvist ceiling is very high after that record breaking year in SHL where he smashed the record for my points as a Def under 20 and it wasn't even close and Faksa seen to have already shown his ceiling and its nothing to brag about.. We can buyout Hank this year and save 3m on the cap ...its no big deal with him only having one more year left on this contract.

If you buyout Hank, you’d pay 1.5 the following season season (I think). Why not just keep him. With the trade you open up the same amount of space without the cost on the additional year. But I guess that doesn’t matter with Staal and Smith dropping off.

Will you need the cap space this coming season? Do you think the Rangers keep Strome?

No
We would only take a player with a short term deal as a stop gap and Lindell is 6 years

Ya we'll keep Strome and i think he'll get the Brassard deal when he was traded to the Rangers ...Same age and same up tic in stats type of thing so i'm thinking something like 5.5m x3 ..I would say 5 years like the Brassard deal but with the flat cap the next three years i see a lot of agent now signing players no longer then three years. Same with DeAngelo as i had him in for like 7 year deal but now only thinking 3 years now for him as well. Hanks for sure getting a buyout and Smith will be traded with assets to take his full cap...Following year we'll have a ton of cap and can now sign another big free agent so watch for that.

2021/2022 year
DeAngelo/Trouda
Lindgren/Fox
Miller/Lundkvist

Matthew Robertson (Elite) will be fighting for that spot with Miller on the left side.
Zachary Jones (Elite) will be fighting for that spot with Miller on the left side.

I’m seeing both sides from Montreal. Some of the fan base is for this trade.

So it’s not necessarily the player for player trade, but the term?

I honestly didn’t see the upside in Lundkvist initially. I was betting on a mid pair RD from Sweden where Grönborg coaches. Thought it would be a nice transition for the kid.

And over 75% of “habs fans” are crazy people. Why would the habs trade Drouin, who still has a lot of potential (not necessarily in terms of getting better, but just showing how good he really is) for a position where we can already dress 3 players, and already have Mete, Chiarot, Kulak, Romanov, Norlinder, Harris, and Struble?

Edit: I’m not calling SevenLeg crazy, they are usually very reasonable, but I disagree with them in this situation.

Let’s say the numbers go like this
Strome $6
DeAngelo $6
Fast $3
Lemieux $2.25
Would buying out Lundqvist still be an option?

I don't know lol i love Matthew Robertson and think he'll be a #1 left handed Def in the future lol He's that good. JD (John Davidson) Rangers President and Ex Blues President and you see them Blues Def ? He shaped the Blues blueline starting with Alex Pietrangelo 4th overall in 2008 and said Robertson reminds him of Pietrangelo lol and couldn't believe he was still available in the 2nd round mind ya he was projected to be a 1st round pick.

The cap space for the next 3 to 4 years is going to be rough. I think you could keep most of your team together by trading Lundqvist at full value. Dallas needs a backup goalie for one year. We also need quality prospects. NYR has some of the best prospects, so I don’t think this would hurt too much. Also, NYR bonuses would be really high if each player reached potential. Dickinson and Faksa will keep that number down at a low cost, while adding a proven defensive shutdown mentality.

Deal?

Another thing to consider, Lundqvist would have to approve of the trade. I think he would for Dallas. I can’t think of another team that he would waive for this year (that could afford him).

Still though, the return would have to be solid to take on a 10% total cap hit this next year for a goalie to play around 30 games.

Also, you would be spending 13 million in buyouts next season with a Lundqvist buyout. That is insane. You would have to hope for hometown discounts or bridge deals. I don’t see you keeping both ADA and Strome. I guess you’d have to debate on what would make you better next year. You have youth, but the bonuses could wreck you in two years if they preform well.

As a Dallas fan, this doesn’t make the most sense. We were not a bubble team. We had issues scoring due to coaching style. But I see the need in having solid prospects to bring in two to three years from now.
