I don't think it makes sense for the hawks to get eichel. Giving up 4 big time roster players and a top 10 pick for one superstar player doesn't make us any more of a contender in my opinion. The hawks won their stanley cups with tons of depth are the core. The core is now weaker than it was back then and we have no depth around it. This team would be just as mediocre as the current team in my opinion

I agree about the depth but I disagree that this team would be mediocre. Having a Eichel kane line would look a lot like the kane panarin line. They'd be deadly and if the toews line produces like it did this past season they would easily make the playoffs. If Dehaan is healthy he can take keiths role. Losing boqvist hurts but addind mitchell should help fill that hole a little bit. Losing cat would hurt but nylander probably has a breakout year on this line. Losing strome is nothing. And the 1st is always a toss up.

We were pretty mediocre even when we had panarin that's the thing. Back to back first round exits and then he was gone

Idk I feel like kane playing with an elite center would make all the difference.

Not to mention shaw was only on the team for one season with panarin. Teravainen didn't break out yet. Hosea was on the downside of his career. Schmaltz wouldn't shoot the puck. Murphy is a solid hjammer replacement.

Idk if the 3rd most points in the league would be considered mediocre. Nashville got really hot after getting Subban, and they were the clear best team in the West. 2016 was also a close series. Mediocre teams dont make the playoffs. We were good but not great and we had a terrible defensive group that didnt know how to act because we had nobody after Keith and Hammer.

Not to mention we gut our defense here losing both Keith and Boqvist. De Haan is definitely not a first liner, Beaudin is not ready for 2nd line duties, and Nylander is not ready to be counted on. This team is noticeably worse then without the trade, brutal looking on defense.

Keith is not a first liner anymore either. If beaudin can't handle 2nd line yet, trade maatta and use that cap to sign a decent 2nd liner. And I don't think being on a line with kane and eichel is considered being counted on. If nylander can't handle every players dream job then put caggiula there. All he'd have to do is play the anisimov role. Get kane or eichel the puck and stand in front of the net. This team makes the playoffs. The current hawks finished last in the division.

I get Keith isn't quite a first liner anymore but he is still the best we have on the left and better then De Haan. If you think De Haan and Murphy are going to carry the defense as the 1st line into the playoffs then you are sorely mistaken. On the same note, while Kane and Eichel would be great together, and the first line played well this season, the 3rd line is gutted with Dach basically on his own. In today's NHL, you need 3 solid scoring lines and that 3rd line as is won't be scoring much.

This team is not better then the following;

Kubalik - Toews - Saad
Nylander/Caggs - Dach - Kane
Cat - Strome - Caggs/Nylander
Highmore - Kampf - Carps

Keith - Boqvist
De Haan - Mitchell
Carlsson/Koekko - Murphy
Seabs
Beaudin is not ready yet likely.

Crow
Delia

The team above is way more balanced, much better overall defense, and we'll have more cap space as the cap is likely flat next season and in 21/22.
