Crazy Idea if the Isles win the Draft Lottery

Description
No, it won't happen. Let me have fun.

The Islanders get rid of their worst two contracts, and if they can shed Leddy and Komarov too, they get the cap space needed to chase the biggest fish on the market, while still getting to draft a potentially elite prospect who can play on Barzal's wing in 2-4 years. Even if Lou misses on getting Hall, between Wahlstrom, Bellows, Holmstrom and Raymond/Perfetti/whoever, the Isles will still be set on offense for the foreseeable future. The Isles miss out on Lafreniere, but instead get a chance to chase the Cup for the next few years without really losing any long term valuable assets.

The Senators have to take on two undeniably bad contracts and lose their 5th overall pick and a 2nd rounder. But in return, they get the franchise altering forward they'll need, and they get to keep their 3rd round pick that they can still use to draft Stutzle or Byfield. After 3 more years of building, Boychuk and Ladd will be off the books, just in time for Lafreniere's and Stutzle/Byfield's contracts. The Sens take on two awful contracts in the short to mid term, but once Ladd and Boychuk are off the books, they're set for long term dominance.

Ottawa says ‘NO TAKE BACKS!’ And runs to the shire to hide in bilbo’s hobbit hole.

Tempting but I would rather keep Laf and have him partner with Barzal for the next 10 yrs over Hall.

I get that, I just feel like the Isles' core is aging and we should go for it now. Especially if we still pick up a great winger prospect for Barzal in Raymond or Perfetti. Imagine getting to make a run for the Cup for the next 3 years and still having Wahlstrom, Bellows, Holmstrom, Dobson, Wilde, Sorokin, Perfetti/Raymond, etc. to still compete thereafter.

If this trade was the same, but the Isles get the 3rd instead of the 5th, would you still do it?

Maybe for the 3rd, and the isles first.

Giving up Laf would suck, but we'd still be getting a potentially franchise altering player at 5, plus freeing up over $11.5 million. I think I'd do it

Most I'd do in a package with 3OA is 3+33OA and take the two crap contracts back. Or remove one of the contracts and add the NYI first back in

How about 3OA+NYI gets the 1st back, however, NYI retains 1.5m on Boychuk's contract.

Ya theres lots of little variations you could put on the trade by moving smaller pieces around. I just don't see Ottawa trying to take as much salary and get as much draft capital as possible
