Shedding Salary - Preparing for a Flat Cap

Created by: MitchMarner_16
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2020
Published: Jul. 6, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’ve heard a rumour that Keefe and Barrie have a great mutual respect for each other. I’ve also heard that Barrie would be willing to take a short term, team friendly contract to wait out the Covid Fallout. If that happens, here’s what we can expect.
If I’m honest, I think keeping him would be smart. He played well under Keefe and wasn’t a dumpster fire like Babcock made him.

I hope the kings trade is sort of close. Kings fans, please help me out.

I seen that hurricanes trade a few times now. I think it’s fairly even trade but overall hurricanes might regret it.

Ummmm.... no they would not. Hall for larsson 2.0

Nylander stays in Toronto. If they are interested in a shutdown Dman I would look at signing Hamonic and shedding salary in our bottom 6 where we have elc players ready to jump in.

It would be a short sighted move by toronto. Cheaper options available (asset wise)

The LA trade is fine for the Kings; I think we would accept pretty quickly. I'm not sure it's best for Toronto, though. I'm not convinced that you need both Kempe and Lizotte. It just feels to me like you're adding to the left-handed middle-6-forward logjam you've got. Kempe is good at both LW and C but Lizotte has exclusively played C. However, if you had a place to send Johnsson, shifting them one slot over to the left and then putting them with Barabanov might work out really well.

Youre joking right? A dman thats been 3rd pairing (minutes and matchups) for a top line winger that just had a great season. The idea of this deal is laughable and even more comical that anyone would even think Pesce is worth more than NYlander

It’s shocking some might value D more than wingers. Haha

Pesce is a top 10 RD in the league, to say he's had bottom line matchups or minutes is comical. Futhermore, a 2nd line RW (he's not 1RW in Toronto, he wouldn't beat out Svech in Carolina) for someone like this is a horrible trade usually. The only reason Carolina may consider tthis is because of scoring woes. Just because you know nothing about Pesce doesn't make him 3rd pairing.

I'll be honest I like this, the bias in me suggests a touch more coming back from Carolina as pointed out it's a similar deal to the Hall Larsson swap - but it does balance out the roster

The fact you deny it proves you have 0 clue what you're spewing sh*t about. Now, please shush, because Pesce is probably the best complete DFD in the NHL.

theres a big difference in value for a top line winger and a dman thats been a 3rd pairing guy (probably ready for an increased workload but still unproven). Would Montreal trade Domi for Holl or Dermott??? Not a chance.. but thats exactly the logic youre using, dip****!

I would pass on Kempe and do (Roy+Lizotte) for (Kapenan + SDA+ Greenway). Already got conformation from some kings fans that it would work. With roy coming in no need to move Nylander and the lines become

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Lizotte-Barbanov
Clifford-Spezza-Engvall

Rielly-Roy
Muzzin-Holl
Lehtonen-Dermott

Leafs will have cap space and room for resignings.

He’s not even the best rh dfd in the league... not to mention the countless two way Rhd, shut down lhd and and two way lhd... and how about the skilled offensive Dmen?

Pesce is probably the third best Dman in Carolina. Do you seriously believe you have 3 of the top 10 Dmen in the league?

I said top 10 RD. He's probably top 15 overall. Ignorance doesn't dominish his value

Sorry I misread, but this idea of centring our players by handedness is ridiculous. It would be like calling out eh centres.

Rh dfd, yeah you could debate top 10. But that’s a really small chunk of the nhl.

I mean nylander is certainly top 3 Johnny bravo chin sweet flow rh winger in the nhl....

I mean in terms of complete RD, an all-around game, I have Pesce at 9th in the league among RD. He's honestly that good. Nylander is a hell of a player, but he's a 2RW (He's a 2RW in Toronto and he won't be out Svech for 2RW in Carolina). It's more of a reasonable trade than you think. Pesce plays 2nd pairing in Carolina *most* nights, it doesn't mean he's a 2nd pairing D man and I know you're gonna make the same point with Nylander. What I'm trying to say is that with Nylander, it's more than handedness. Pesce's left-hand equivalent is probably Slavin. Although Slavin is a little better with his shot, they're scarily similar everywhere else and that's what flies uder the radar. Would you trade Slavin for Nylander knowing how good Slavin is? If you say no, your bias is shining through. This is the kinda trade we're looking at, 1for1

I would certainly consider slavin. Doesn’t really fit if he can’t plat the right side. There are plenty of lhd in the league that play perfectly fine on the right.

Slavin in my opinion is miles ahead of Pesce. Pesce would maybe slip into my top 30 for rhd.

Quick edit, after thinking about it... maybe top 40.

Then, with all due respect, you need to watch more of Pesce. I don't think there's a natural defender better than him in the NHL not named Nicklas Hjalmersson.

I watch plenty of Pesce he’s solid defensively. But there’s more to the game than just that. As far as defensive rhd like I said he is a top 10ish.

Again, no. He's the most complete DFD in hockey, and you need to watch more of him. He's a top 10 ALL AROUND defender. in terms of the right handed defenders.
