    You're lacking about $2-3M from the Bear deal.

    Actually since Bear doesn’t have arbitration rights till 21-22 the oilers only have to offer him I think what his salary was this year. I could be wrong though

    Oh my!! Everyone says that. He isn’t a pylon, he is a good defence man that can play both left and right side that someone will take for like a 7th.

    I mean sure, but Bear has absolutely no reason to sign that contract. That money just allows you to keep his rights.

    He's a NHL level D that should earn NHL level salary, after all.

    I agree he deserves it but with the cap staying fiat does he even have a say till he hits the 4 years?

    The oilers basically would pitch to him, after the 20-21 season we will be able to lock you up long term.

    That, and he is only due to be paid 1.5 mill, with a cap hit of 4. So a team that needs to hit the cap floor without spending the money would find value in that for a year.

    Of course he does. He doesn't have to sign any contract with Oilers if he doesn't want to. The only restriction for him is that he can't negotiate with other NHL teams.
