I think Vancouver should give Rafferty a shot.

He should, probably starts on the 3rd pairing. I think Stecher is probably gonna get traded so they still need someone to play with Hughes

That's the question really, I would like to see them OS Cernak but if not a cheap option like Schenn could work

Stecher has been good, why trade him?

Because Jimbo decided to give Myers a terrible contract, I suppose you could play Myers and Hughes together but I don't know how well that works.

Imo they need a legit 1st pairing RHD to play with Hughes.

Hughes-_____
Edler-Myers

Works as a top 4. Stetcher is good but he’s not a top pairing guy. Tanev was, but injuries have derailed his career

I mean, they could go after a big free agent like Barrie or Pietrangelo, but that will cost them. They have enough problems with re-signing Markstrom and Toffoli.

Schenn is a 3rd pairing guy. I definitely wouldn't want him playing 1st pairing minutes.

There's a lot of good things about his game but he's simply too slow.

When he played with Hughes last year he was extremely good, if the Canucks had some cap space I probably wouldn't sign him but Jimbo's signed some terrible contracts so you're gonna have to try and find some cheap gems for at least two years

Imagine if Vancouver didn’t have all the albatross contracts like:

Eriksson, Sutter, ferland, Baerstchi, Myers, beagle, roussel, cap recapture from Luongo, etc...

This team could add a guy like Petro. But that is obviously not the case. Benning sucks at signing free agents / some extensions

I like the idea of bringing back Schenn, but ideally as the 7th man that can fill in when injuries hit.

I’m hoping DeMelo is the Canucks main target and that his price tag starts with a 3 on the AAV for a mid-to-long term deal. Ideally he’s a 2nd pairing guy, but I think he’d also mesh well with Hughes, which could provide a ton of value at that cap hit.

It’s time for Tanev to move along to another team IMO. 30 years old, prolific injury history, and his possession numbers weren’t great last season.

Which is why I would prefer to see them sign a lower-end guy on a 2 year deal who can hold it together some what, and after all those terrible contracts are off the books in two years maybe take a run at Seth Jones
