Edited Jul. 7, 2020 at 12:16 p.m.. Reason: added explanatory sentence
Florida seems a nice place to look:

-- left side is Yandle, Matheson, Stillman, and I think they're not too hot on Matheson; they could then protect Yandle, Bear* and Ekblad in the expansion draft if they move Weegar, too
-- excess of right-handed forwards
-- possible move up in the first round?

* Late edit (19 hours afterwards): I meant "Jones" here. Watch how this makes the discussion descend into meaninglessness.

CBJ doesn't need defense, especially LD, where they have Werenski, Murray, Gavrikov, Kukan, Harrington and Nutivaara who I believe is a LD that plays RD

I'm a SoCal guy, not a Florida guy, so I don't claim to be very knowledgeable here. Maybe Bear* and Khaira for a swap of 2020 firsts? Maybe Edmonton has to add a draft promotion, like say Oilers' fifth for Panthers' seventh? I dunno.

Late edit (18 hours later): note that the OP has innocently been drawn into a thought about Bear, and I'm now continuing the idiocy

They have to move him. They can only protect Klefbom, Nurse and Bear.

Keep an eye on Torey Krug. If the Bruins don't re-sign him, there's a slot or two opening up there.

Wow, that's really bad for the Oilers. Like REALLY bad.

The difference between pick #15 (Florida's current spot) and #20 (Edmonton's) is a mid-2nd round pick. So you're saying that Ethan Bear, a 22 year old 1st pairing RHD is only worth a mid-2nd?? And then Khaira + 5th is only worth a 7th? You do realize that Jujhar Khaira is one of the best PKers in the league and only gets $1.2M next year, right?

Huh?

My understanding is that Florida has the 14th overall pick and Edmonton has the 23rd and yes, I don't read the same Bible you do.

Late edit: note that @CD282's reference to "1st pairing RHD" didn't wake me up to the confusion I'd created by mixing up 3rd-pairing LHD Caleb Jones with 1st-pairing RHD Ethan Bear

They awarded the picks by points percentage, so it's 15 and 20. Except of course those will change based on playin and playoff finishing.

No idea what you bible comment even means. Your trade suggestion is terrible and Holland would just laugh.

The draft table I consult has a completely different evaluation of the respective values of the 14th and 23rd picks (which is what CapFriendly currently says, and I don't bother checking their accuracy) than yours so no, my trade does not value Jones and Khaira as the equivalent of a "mid-second."

Since my earlier offhand reaction was so sharply criticized despite two disclaimers, I'll just point out that it looks to me from the percentages and table published by the NHL that Florida is picking 17th and Edmonton is picking 20th, so it would be hard to construct a deal around a pick swap and Jones.

It's not "my" draft list, I'm referring to the NHL on this. They're the ones that decide, remember? And yes, @CapFriendly is wrong on this and have been for weeks/months. NHL made the decision to use points percentage for draft position a while ago. Capfriendly is wrong: at this moment Florida holds the 17th pick and Edmonton the 20th. Obviously these numbers will change to reflect play-in and playoff results.

You refer to a "draft table", are you looking at a draft pick value chart? Because most of those don't reflect reality either. When I state that the cost to move up 3 spots in the middle of the 1st round is a mid-2nd, that's based on actual trades:

In 2018 NYR moved up to #22 for the cost of #26 and #48.
In 2017 DAL moved up to #26 for the cost of #29 and #70.
In 2015 PHI moved up to #24 for the cost of #29 and #61.
In 2015 CLB moved up to #29 for the cost of #34 and #68.

And now you're moving the goalposts. Your original post that I responded to was clearly talking about Ethan Bear, now you're trying to switch that to Caleb Jones?
