I'd take Holtz over Nylander. He'll need a year or two more in the AHL or Swedish league, but after that, you get an elite sniper on an entry level contract for 3 years. Nylander has a $7M cap hit now.

You must be crazy if you think Dubas would ever accept this trade.

Throw in Jokiharju and a 4th, then the Leafs consider it

No I’m already giving up 8th overall. Toronto can trade it to get a nice defenseman, or draft and develop one.

Your response just confirms to everyone on CapFriendly that this is a terrible trade for Leafs.

I would say add some ahl wing and it's fair. Leafs have enormous potential with this

They could draft Rossi at 8 or dubas could trade down for Schneider or astarov.

For instance they could go to Minnesota give them the 8th get the 11th draft Schneider and have another 2nd to use as they please.the possibilities are endless. With this deep draft dubas could potentially get a couple of steals like he did with Robertson

Sabres Decline. Love Nylander but I think it's best if Toronto doesn't move him and Sabres take a C like Rossi or a W like Raymond.

Let's look at another way for the Leafs.

Trade four years of 7m Nylander. Let's say Montour is signed for 4m X 2 which will takes him into UFA. Leafs then have 3m more cap space in the deal then maybe they can find cap to sign DeMelo.
Sure you're without Nylander.....but a more solid defence with. Montour, DeMelo and Holl on the right side.
The 8th overall, that's the wild card.

I doubt Leafs would ever make such an impact deal with Buffalo in the first place. Additionally, Nylander alone is worth significantly more than that, you'd have to start with Cozens and the 2020 1st round pick, then the Sabres would probably have to include an additional piece. It would be absolutely zero sense as to why the Sabres, who are clearly in need of a proper rebuild, would ever consider such a deal. Finally, the fact that Sabres fans value Montour so much is hilarious.

Dubas would be a fool not to make this deal it were on the table. A. He would know Nylander is going to be playing out of position with a division rival at 2C. His game most certainly will regress there with the added defensive responsibilities and not having an elite player like Tavares or Matthew's on his line to drive play and free up space. I would expect him to be about a 50 point player with the Sabres that continues to struggle with the defensive game as he does in Toronto. B. Montour while not elite fits well in Torontos system and can play on 2nd or 3rd pair and really help TO transition game. C. You have freed up about 3 million in cap to address other needs set aside for Hyman next year or Anderson's replacement. D. Gives you 8 o/a where you can draft a forward that projects to be as good or better than Nylander on 2 years under team control for 9 years and an elc for 3 of those. Had Nylander played center more recently and consistently and shown the same level of production on the wing I would be willing to make this move for the Sabres as they need to get better up front right now even if it weakens them in the long run. As it stands I think the Sabres need to pass on this deal and look for a different option that is more proven at center

Dubus would and should accept this offer, as for Holtz>Nylander looking at Buffalo's needs at the moment that certainly not true the only argument you have is Holtz could possibly end up better than Nylander 3/4 years down the road after Jack has demanded his way out of the tire fire.
