Monahan is a better centre than Danault and you traded your best forward in gaudreau without replacing him. Sure this team got deeper, and Dumba is a nice add, but there’s better ways to improve this Calgary team than trading Gaudreau and Monahan. Calgary doesn’t have a lot of glaring holes and isn’t pressed against the cap like other teams. Their biggest issue is depth and I think they can address that this offseason

IMO, I do like Danault more than Monahab, but the CBJ Trade makes this team a lot worse

Monahan is not better than Danault. He is one of the most overrated centres in the league. While Danault continues to get slept on by most hockey fans. I needed a top line RW. I had 2 great LWs in Tkachuk and Gaudreau. So I traded Johnny Hockey for Bjorkstrand (another extremely underrated player) and added Josh Anderson as a great depth piece.

CBJ runs
SJS decline
MTL Declines
And I think the 1/1 swap with Min works
But OVR I think this team downgrades, you can definitely trade one of You’re big 4 on Offensive and stay competitive, but not 2

I had a surplus of LWs. Traded one of them for a great RW and a good depth piece

Monahan's underlying statistics say that he is a quality bottom 9 forward. He was paid a bit too much for that, so I decided to trade him.

Monahan is capable of scoring 80+ points. Danault is lucky if he hits 55 points. I don’t care how much better defensively Danault is than Monahan. As a 1C, I’ll take the guy who can put up around 30 goals and 70 ish points on average

You could like Danault more than Monahan. I like Zach Aston Reese more than Ovi. Does that mean he’s better? Monahan is clearly superior to Danault as a #1C. Again, idc how good Danaults “defensive analytics” are. Monny practically doubles his goal totals and usually has 20+ more points than Danault. And he’s younger

He might score 70 points, but he isnt better offensively than Danault. Danault was stuck on a Habs team with no finishers. Tkachuk and Bjorkstrand both compliment his game perfectly. His defense is exponentially better than Monahan.

Also Danault had a EV OFF GAR of 9.8 and a EV DEF GAR of 1.8, while Monahan had a EV OFF GAR of 6.8 and a EV DEF GAR of -3.9

This season, Danault had 2.2 WAR while Monahan only had 0.2 WAR.

Danault only makes half of what Monahan makes while being the better player.

Bjorkstrand was equal to if not better than Gaudreau this season

Danault isn’t the better player. Take these advance stats with a grain of salt. Danault is one of the outliers where his stats are way above his on ice performance. In reality, he’s a good 2C or great 3C. He has no business being a 1C but MTL has no one else. Monny on the other hand has proven he can score 30+ goals and 60+ points consistently. WAR is probably the worst advance stat. The EvolvingWild brothers are losers. Danault is comparable to backlund, not Monahan. Similar offensive production and both good defensively

Bjorkstrand career high: 40 points
Gaudreau career high: 99 points

Even Gaudreau this season with the worst year of his career, still outperformed Bjork considerably with a PPG of .83 vs .73

Explain how his stats dont show his on ice production. Monahan's stats are inflated by playing with Gaudreau. Danault doesnt play with a finisher, if anything, Monahan's stats are outliers that show something above his on ice performance. Danault is better offensively, just doesnt have the teammates to show it.

WAR is one of the best and most complete stats there are. Also, may I ask why you think the EvolvingWild brothers are losers?

Gaudreau 2019-2020 WAR: 0.6
Bjorkstrand 2019-2020 WAR: 4.0

Also remember Bjorkstrand was battling injuries this year

Danault has Gallagher who is a capable 30 goal scorer. If Danault was better offensively, he would have more points to show for it. It doesn’t take EvolvingWild to figure out that one. Like I said, Danault comparable is Backland. A good 2C or great 3C. Monahan is a good 1C, great 2C. He’s a tier above Danault.

They are losers because their model is completely inaccurate and ridiculous when they tweet things like Valeri Nichuskin had a better season than Drai.

I couldn’t care if Bjorkstand’s WAR was 15 and Gaudreau’s was only 1. I won’t use their
model to evaluate players. Advanced stats only tell a piece of the puzzle. They’re a good tool, but they’re not the “be all end all” when it comes to players.

Based off stats this year
MIN probably accepts 1 for 1 tbh
MTL might say yes, Derek Ryan is still a solid player
CBJ says no (Yes if i base it off multiple years)
and i dont think SJ cares too much for bum Sam Bennett
