Gaudreau trade looks very interesting. Patrick's status is really up in the air with his migrane issues, but it's worth taking a chance.

Well, I don't know what to say.

Flames get a very sizable downgrade on LW who is 5 years older and actually has a higher cap hit than Johnny, and for helping the Flyers out with that massive favor all they get in return is a 25 year old bottom pairing Dman who, if by some miracle actually took a step forward would have to then be protected in the expansion draft, an admittedly high end C prospect but who hasn't played a game in over a year now, and a late 1st round pick.

Methinks this one gets turned down pretty quickly.

I guess I did know what to say. smile

Lol.

Yeah it's a risky deal, not denying that. But since it's pretty clear that Gaudreau is not continuing in CGY, they might be looking for a high risk high reward deal.

JVR is still pretty good. Tad overpaid yes, but if that becomes an issue PHI could probably partly retain his salary.

What'd you add?

I don't think the Flames will trade Johnny yet unless they actually do sign Hall as a UFA. In that case they won't want a ton of salary coming back in a Gaudreau trade unless that player fits a need (top 6 C or RW), and also likely won't be targeting a LW, especially one with a big contract.

Treliving's 1st ask would probably be Couturier straight up, and then after that likely gets shut down he probably asks for Konecny 1 for 1. I doubt either of those happen though.

After that? Who knows...

I'm sure Frost, Patrick (pending physical and all that), Myers, Farabee (LW but still cheap) would all be pieces of interest, not sure which ones or how many Treliving could squeeze out. Myself, I'd be disappointed if they announced the trade and two of those pieces weren't coming back along with a 1st.

Say, would you take a deal such as

Calgary Flames
James Van Riemsdyk (20% salary retained)
Nolan Patrick
Philippe Myers
2021 1st round pick (PHI)

Philadelphia Flyers
Johnny Gaudreau
Oliver Kylington

Much better, I go back to the LW thing and counter:

Calgary Flames

Jakub Voracek (10% retained)
Nolan Patrick
Philippe Myers
2021 1st round pick (PHI)

Philadelphia Flyers
Johnny Gaudreau
Oliver Kylington

Problem is that PHI also have a surplus on the LW.

After that trade they'd have Gaudreau, Giroux, JVR, Farabee, Lindblom and Raffl.

I see. Figured the Flyers might put Giroux back at C if they got Gaudreau. Maybe move Hayes back to RW, I remember wanting him back when he was with the Rangers because he'd played RW on Johnny's line back in college.

Interesting.

Well regardless I think this deal can't work without JVR going other way. Imo there's a clear value difference with him and Voracek, not to mention tha Voracek is their only pure RW.

Is Konecny not a pure RW?

He was drafted as a C as I recall, but it didn't work so they put him in LW, but after they put Giroux on the LW they tried Konecny on the RW...worked best but not exactly a pure RW.
